Pretty cool idea, you get to watch the computer "think" about its next move

http://turbulence.org/spotlight/thinking/chess.html

and pretty colors!

yeah, that's pretty fucking cool.

only problem is the motherfucker will rule out a move early on, and then it won't light it much at all, and then you overlook it!

i'm running a 2.6ghz qx6700 quad core.. it takes my computer about 4-5 seconds to react. how long does it take on other processors?

update:
it only utilizes 1 of the 4 cores per move. so it's no useful to have 4 cores for this game. oh well. tww get's 1 core usually too.. lol

no, it's at best a weak AI for chess, considering there are many much stronger AI players out there. I've come close to beating this, but haven't quite yet because it still takes a very strong game from someone at my level.

Still, seeing the logic is the cool thing, and I'd really rather it take more time so i can see it's logic more. You can tell when you made a bad move, because then it sees one good move (its move) and the lines for that one keep getting stronger and stronger. If you're playing good, it should be mostly stumped as to what is the absolute best move.

But it's also really cool to see just how many arbitrary calculations have to go into even a mid-level AI. Sometimes I'll see it pursuing huge number of moves in some direction that just holds no promise. It can't see the stupidity of it, it's a computer. As always, overcalculating, ridiculously deterministic and simple.

Even from the early game, you can see it defending against moves that are no threat at all
