Why would Miller ever come back here? His only connection is through Herb (well, and Archie), and Herb didn't exactly leave on the best of terms with us.

Sean Miller would never play Marques Johnson aka worst point guard in ACC history.

I mean, does anyone really label him as a success at Arizona? I feel like they've stagnated and he's recruiting well but his results haven't been overly impressive. At least not on the level of hype this guy was getting when he took the Zona job.

2009–10 Arizona 16–15 10–8 4th 2010–11 Arizona 30–8 14–4 1st NCAA Elite Eight2011–12 Arizona 23–12 12–6 4th NIT First Round2012–13 Arizona 27–8 12–6 2nd NCAA Sweet Sixteen2013–14 Arizona 33–5 15–3 1st NCAA Elite Eight2014–15 Arizona 34–4 16–2 1st NCAA Elite Eight2015–16 Arizona 25–9 12–6 3rd NCAA First Round2016–17 Arizona 23–3 12–1 At what school would that not be a success???
2/15/2017 9:53:27 AM
OK, let's match this with recruits(247) and preseason expectations:09-10 - #12 class, NR preseason, Missed tourney10-11 - #36 class, NR preseason, Elite 811-12 - #4 class, #16 preseason, NIT12-13 - #3 class, #12 preseason, Sweet 1613-14 - #11 class, #6 preseason, Elite 814-15 - #3 class, #2 preseason, Won Conference, Elite 815-16 - #3 class, #12 preaseason, First Round16-17 - #6 class, #10 preaseason, ???You're talking about a guy who in the last 6 years is averaging having the #5 class each season, so a WEALTH of talent, and to show for it, he's won 1 conference championship(tournament) and he's never made it past the Elite 8. So you're Arizona, you have the #6 highest paid coach in men's basketball, and after 7 seasons you have 1 conference championship and no Final Four appearances. I never said he was a bum, but I think he's kind of peaked and they're basically on a plateau. It's clearly not the talent and I don't consider the Pac-12 a super strong bball conference. I mean he could win it all this year and all that goes out the window, but looking at his track record, does anyone really not expect him to flop in the tournament?[Edited on February 15, 2017 at 10:15 AM. That's not the point where you double down and call Sean Miller mediocre dude... your crazy is showing a bit.
2/15/2017 10:22:07 AM
2/15/2017 10:26:12 AM
He was #12 preseason and made the Sweet 16, he was #12 preseason and made the 1st round, he was #16 preseason and MISSED THE TOURNAMENT. So yeah, he either flops or makes the Elite 8 I guess. So yeah, I guess the hope is they keep landing top 10 classes until all the great coaches actually retire and hope no other great coaches replace them?
2/15/2017 10:30:12 AM
Honestly we shouldn't be settling for anyone that is over the age of 45 and hasn't won multiple national championships.

I'm not saying he's a bad coach, I'm just saying he hasn't really set the world on fire like everyone thought he would when he took the Arizona job. ^^^Yeah, I'd say being preseason top 15 and missing the tournament is an awful season, I don't care how many wins you have. Hell most people consider our preseason #6 season an awful season and we actually made the damn tournament.
2/15/2017 10:40:54 AM
What coaches have?
2/15/2017 10:42:56 AM
i can't believe he hasn't won 10 national championships yet
2/15/2017 10:47:20 AM
death, taxes, and State fans being absolutely ridiculous during a coaching searchI can't believe someone is trying to make the argument that Sean Miller isn't as good of a coach as he isif you had a boner for Rick Barnes during previous searches.......
2/15/2017 10:55:58 AM
^I'd take 3 out of 6 Elite 8 appearances any day of the week.[Edited on February 15, 2017 at 10:59 AM. Reason : ...]

^^I didn't want Rick Barnes, and I wasn't saying Sean Miller isn't a good coach, I just said he has the feel of a coach that has kinda plateaued. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that, maybe eventually he'll break through, but for now, his ceiling is apparently the Elite 8 and he's working each year with a top 5 team from a talent perspective. Remember how pissed off our fans got that we started the season #6 and went out in the 1st or 2nd round? How is that any different than what Miller does basically every single season? Making the Elite 8 3 times is great, but when you're preseason top 3, shouldn't you expect perhaps the Final 4? I mean look at the Bills, you think their fans were pumped they made the SB 4 years in a row or pissed that they lost it 4 years in a row? I'm just a bit surprised Zona fans aren't getting a little frustrated given how much talent he's bringing in and they aren't even winning the conference or making the Final 4. Arizona is basically the 3rd best recruiting team in the country over the last 5-6 years and the top 2 teams(Duke and Kentucky) both have at least 1 title in that span. How many years of being a preseason top 10 team and never making the Final 4 until he becomes the coach that just can't win the big ones?
2/16/2017 8:36:19 AM
Sean Miller is probably the best active coach that has never been to the Final Four. Now Rick Barnes, there is a guy that plateaued.
2/16/2017 9:59:23 AM
^^you must be trollin. I think everybody here would love to "plateau" in the elite 8 most years, be top 10, and have a chance of breaking into the final 4, recruit great, and look all sexy. You must be tralleyin.[Edited on February 16, 2017 at 10:02 AM. Reason : .]
2/16/2017 10:02:19 AM
Honestly not trolling, I think you're just failing to put yourself in their fans shoes. Let's compare it to NC State. Pre-Herb: Fans were tired of losing and never making the tournament. Most fans believed, "just being competitive in the ACC and making the tournament would be amazing!" So we hire Herb: We start making the tournament most years, make the ACC Tournament final several years, finish 2nd in the ACC. So this is EXACTLY what our fan base said they wanted. Then what happened? We wanted more! We wanted to actually beat UNC and Duke, win ACC Tournaments(Herb can get us to the finals but never win!), and make it further in the NCAA tournament(making the tournament doesn't mean anything!). So Arizona is now a darkhorse to win the title most years, and they've never hit the Final Four in 5+ years of being preseason top 12 and having one of the most talented teams in the NCAA every single season. I mean it's much better than not making the tournament, but at what point is Elite 8 the ceiling for Sean? Imagine if this was NC State. We have a coach who finally makes us relevant. But let's say we're finishing with top 5 recruiting classes every season, preseason top 12 most years, we're making the tourney each year, but we're still consistently failing to win the ACCT and still losing to Duke and UNC each year. We start making the Elite 8 every other year or so and then getting upset early in the tournament other seasons. While UNC and Duke are still winning titles and/or consistently making the Final 4. How long until our fan base gets tired of never taking the next step? Do you honestly think we'd just be cool with those results hoping that eventually Coach K and Roy will retire and in 5-6 years we might be able to win the ACCT? Seriously? I think Sean is a great coach, I just think this board is way too high on him giving his actual production and I don't think it's negative to say he's peaked at making Elite 8's every other season.[Edited on February 16, 2017 at 10:36 AM.
