heard this guy interviewed on npr yesterdayhe used to buy semi trucks of records being either taken out of places, or reasons unknownwithout knowing the contents.it's impressive, but dont think there aren't dupes. (although some of the dupes could be a good thing.. he mentioned one of his semi purchases included a few hundred copies the first pressing of the first zz top single, now going individiually for like $200+)[im jealous as f0ck]

2/20/2008 2:51:54 PM
i'm sure the guy realized that as cool as this might be he probably wasted his entire life on this. and the fact that some aren't even open, music is meant to be enjoyed, expressed, and shared. This guy sucks
2/20/2008 3:00:04 PM
you can get $10 back if you buy with the ebay mastercard!
2/20/2008 3:09:13 PM
^^record collecting, like any other kind of collecting, is a hobby that some people enjoy for its own sake. Obviously this guy has taken it to the extreme, but still. don't be hatin'!
2/20/2008 3:15:42 PM
^^^well he did share it. he had a store for 40 years. also, he apparently has been having health problems and that is part of why he's selling. ALSO he's made it very clear that he would prefer if a university or museum purchased his music so that it would be shared with the public.
2/20/2008 3:16:59 PM
just think, theres probably some 14 year old somewhere with the exact same collection on a few 1 TB external HDDs
2/20/2008 3:21:33 PM
i have a feeling the majority of what he has never made it to cd (and thus probably didn't make it to mp3 either)[Edited on February 20, 2008 at 3:22 PM. Reason : .]
2/20/2008 3:22:14 PM
yeah i guess...i've seen where people have ripped vinyl into electronic format but i doubt a lot of his vinyl was
2/20/2008 3:28:28 PM
which i'm assuming is why he wants a university or something to get it and do that.
2/20/2008 3:39:11 PM
i'm lovin' the fact that i got namechecked
