I am writing my thesis and right now it is in parts. It has to be paged a specific way. The abstract page and title page are not paged and the bio, acknowledge page are roman numerals and my lit review is when the actualy first page starts. So how do I combine these to this format without the computer automatically converting it to numbers or whatever?

why dont you just do it the easy way and make a few different files and set up the page to do what you want for each filedoes your thesis have to be in one digital file

Page numbering in MS Word always pissed the hell out of my. I always messed with it for 30 mins before I finally just printed the pages individually with whatever I needed.

Yeah it has to be submitted electronically as one document :-( I wish microsoft word worked like powerpoint

I always submitted my stuff as pdf files cause i'm pretty sure one of my professors wanted to take one of my senior projects as his own.

shoulda used LaTex.BUT there are instructions on how to do this online. dig around on google some. a friend of mine found a page that had most of the instructions he needed for doing his master's thesis using MS Word. If you need it ASAP and can't find the info, PM me and i'll see if i can get the answer from that guy.

which word version?

Squirt, you want to mess around with section breaks. It helps if you view it in the 'Normal' mode instead of 'Page Layout' mode. It's kinda hard to explain, so I would take a look at a couple of tutorials online. I'll help you out when I get back from lunch if you still need it Good luck, sections in Word sucks

use section breaks and when you view the header/footer, you can change how the number displays with the format page number button. It's relatively easy. I just did it in Word 02 and it took about 30 seconds and half of that time was me accidentally using page break instead of section break and trying to figure what the hell I did wrong. ^ yup. section breaks. and in the HEader/footer mode, disable the Link to Previous button

Ok I got the section break part thanks guys! but for some reason the section i DONT want any page numbers for places regular page numbers and the section I want to have roman numerals does what I want it to...

click on the header/footer where you have your first roman numeral and make sure it doesn't show same as previous in that header/footer. If it does click the same as previous buttons. Then just go to the beginning where it's displaying the regular page number and delete the first one.
