my mom moved to mt. airy a couple years ago, about 15 minutes north of the town itself. her property is absolutely stunning, she essentially owns an 8-acre windswept foothill with nothing but more virgin hills, trees, and pastures as far as the eye can see. you can sit in her hot tub on the wrap-around deck and stare off at the blue ridge mountains in the distance...the lack of city lights and cool clean air gives the night sky a crisp clarity seen by an unfortunate few these days. it's that picturesque, ideal beauty most of us know north carolina/appalachia was once capable of, and it's the kind of place you go to realign your soul.that said, i would blow my brains out if i had to live in that town.[Edited on February 18, 2008 at 6:04 AM. Mt Airy is great - for a day. Have lunch @ the Snappy Diner, visit Floyd's Barber Shop, see the Andy Griffith stuff @ the Visitor's Center, look at the squad car, and buy Mayberry merchandise.
