dont like the 40 seconds, just gonna make the game have less playswhy not stop when out of bounds? thats stupid...really stupid.5 yd is a great one if its incidental, guess its hard to call the differencelove the extra replay tho

1. no, dumb.2. ok i guess, makes games go faster. should keep the clock stopped though under 2 mins left in each half.3. i think incidental 5 yd penalty is necessary4. good

a) 40 second play clock: failb) not stopped when out of bounds: failc) no more 5 yard facemask: faild) extra replay challenge: wine) horse collar tackles illegal: win, i guess. but is this an actual problem in ncaa competition or is the rule just another way for an official to accidentally blow the game

football games do not need to be shortened.

I wonder what the average time is for a typical non-televised D1AA or a D2 or D3 game is

i forget who it was, but some commentator last year said "what i want to know is, who signed up for less football?"i thought that was a good way to put it.

I'm sick of them caving in to the TV people and changing around these rules to fuck with the clock in games. It was clear, this year had more exciting finishes/potential great finishes with the old clock rules then 2 years ago when they did all that shit to fuck with the clock. Now I don't have anything to really prove that, it just felt like the games two years ago were much less exciting at the end and the chances of a comeback greatly diminished. I understand why the tv people want games going a managable length of time, but I'd also think they would want the most exciting product possible. There are other things they can do to speed up a college football game, 12 minute halftime instead of 15, take out 1 TV timeout per half, etc.

I know they would never get rid of a tv timeout, but I just find it ironic. They want the games to be shorter, but still have an hour and a half of comercials. You can't have it both ways.

I assumed the way they wanted it was the following:A fixed 3 to 4 hour block to show a game.Less game = more time for commercials = more revenue. They really don't want the block of time they take up to be shortened, just the amount of time the actual game takes up during that block to be shortened.

I really hate this one-- it takes away a strategic aspect of the game.

a) 40 second play clock: Awesome more time watching players dick around the field like the NFLb) not stopped when out of bounds: From a fundamental i think this is stupid for 2min drill but for shortening the game i'll see how it goes. As much as i like football my attention span is strained when games go 4 hours.c) no more 5 yard facemask: sured) extra replay challenge: I love replay challenge; good going with this onee) horse collar tackles illegal: i'll accept it
2/18/2008 9:09:01 AM
i'm firmly against any new rule that shortens the game. BOO.horsecollar tackles gotta go, though.i think the 5yd facemask is pretty useful sometimes... there is occasional incidental contact on the facemask
2/18/2008 10:14:37 AM
Awesome, more time for commercials.
