I heard on the radio this morning the host saying he bought his daughter a few years old RX300 and it came with the spare key without a remote. He called the dealership asking about the price for a new remote/key combo and they told him $1500 for two remotes and it came with a new computer and that's the ONLY way it'll work--i.e. no way to program like most cars.I couldn't find much online about this but it sounds wrong as hell. Does anybody know the details on this?

If it really costs $1500, I would just use the key.

Yeah, that's what he did... one person called in saying the dealership told them the same thing but they bought a key off ebay that came with instructions and it programmed fine. I can't find one on eBay though or the usual remote control replacement sites

you have to trick the ebay seller into sending you instructions for free.lexus has the same programming instructions as toyota.

Same with the traction control code, lemme look for that, it's funny as hell....Found it.....When using the parking brake and brake pedal:1) Check that the Ignition is off and the shift lever position is at P.2) Start the engine after turning the Ignition to the ON position.3) Perform the following steps 4 to 8 within 30 seconds after engine start:4) Turn the parking brake switch on.5) Depress and release the brake pedal twice.6) Turn the parking brake switch on and off twice while depressing the brake pedal.7) Depress and release the brake pedal twice while the parking brake switch is on.Notice: Steps 6 and 7 should be performed within 15 seconds each.8) Check that the VSC warning light and slip indicator are turned on.If they are not turned on, start over from step 1.9) The brake control system will return to the normal mode by turning the Ignition to the ON position from offNote step 8, I think I got it to work correctly on the first try once. Also, remember the commercials where Lexus said something like "we don't encourage this type of driving, but here is what your ES300 can do"-then they show it drifting and such-impossible without the secret handshake.[Edited on February 12, 2008 at 12:09 PM. programming a remote on a 95 range rover: 1. Open hood have assist hold in the hood button (left side as you look in) 2. ensure on the inside all doors closed, ignition off all locks UP 3. turn ignition on then off 4. push the driver side door lock down then up 5. assist then releases hood button 6. turn ignition on then off 7. if done correctly (within 15-20 secs) horn will beep once dash LED will light up - then learn mode is accesed 8. after it works - pusha nd hold remote the dash LED will flash 8 cycles a second for 1 sec to show the code was received 9. give up in futility, learn to use the key
