I heard that you can get work experience counted as a course elective (in this case, ME for a tech elective). I was wondering if anyone had done this and what are the criteria for having it count? Thanks!

maybe i just got the bad tech electives (like klang's automotive engineering class), but some of the required courses were much more useful. but if this is a new thing they've started, i say it's a pretty good idea[Edited on February 8, 2008 at 9:55 AM. Reason : ]

i think its a bad idea. you should be trying to get a coop or internship in addition to taking all your classes. if anything the tech electives (yea maybe minus the automotive which is a joke) are much more applicable to job fields than your core classes.

Find something solid to do for 496 Undergraduate Research. I like the way mine is going and we're(my team/other teams) working fairly closely with several HVAC Design firms in the area.

Well after emailing an adviser, it turns out the university doesn't allow 'paid' internships to be counted for credit. Oh well, looks like Internal Combustion for me.I found it on the Academic Curricula Webpage: http://www.ncsu.edu/uap/academic-standards/courses/crsguidetail.html Scroll to the bottom under '1/4 time internship'[Edited on February 12, 2008 at 8:19 PM. or you can join ASME or ASHRAE and do the design project and get credit for 496or just find a professor that is looking for undergrads to do research. I think Ram normally has a couple and Tu sometimes has some over in the Laser Lab.

yea thats what im doing. ASHRAE design project w/ Dr. Terry.self-paced, meet twice a week for less than an hour with group, meet once a week w/ Terry for like 15min, could win like 1500$ and a trip to Chicago
