He will be like 73 if he wins and takes office, I think this is a terrible liability for him....especially if he runs against the young and charismatic Obama. Not to mention all of the jokes about Regan's age and his Alzheimer's. How much will McCain's age sink his chances?
2/7/2008 10:12:31 AM
Seeing as how his mother is still alive, not very much.
2/7/2008 10:21:18 AM
He'll be older than Reagan. I worry about anyone's judgement at that age in high-stress, taxing situations, particularly looking 4-8 years down the line. Additionally, decisionmaking often slips years before Alzheimers, Parkinsons, etc is diagnosed. His mother doesn't disprove those things. It may not affect him, but it is certainly a fair consideration.

Wait until the debates between the Republican and Democrat nominees. McCain's skin cancer will undoubtedly come up, too--among many other things--and I think it's fair to ask him about it.

If Hillary wins the nomination, it certainly won't matter. Not being Hillary is all that a Republican candidate will need.
2/7/2008 11:39:26 AM
^^ family guy for one
2/7/2008 11:40:44 AM
just as much as people hate Hillary is the fear of another disaster such as Bush.....I think people rely on "people who hate Hillary" way too much
2/7/2008 1:26:16 PM
I hope Obama wins, because Hillary is the only person polarizing enough to allow moderates to give McCain the edge
2/7/2008 1:28:04 PM
I hate that people count her out so easily, if she wins the nom...i dont think the general election will be a landslide by any means.[Edited on February 7, 2008 at 1:33 PM. Reason : a]

Give him a good VP, no one will care.

I would have voted for McCain in 2000 (as he should have won the nod but the GOP had their heads up their asses, but I digress), but no way in hell am I going to put someone that old into office. I'm probably going 3rd party, or maybe Obama if I get my drink on before voting.
2/7/2008 1:50:35 PM
the Christian right is trying to use anything they can to debunk a rational Republican who could appeal to both sides of the aisle so that they can get their bible thumping good Christian Reactionary Conservative into office.
2/7/2008 3:03:24 PM
I don't think he's too old. But it's one more weapon the media can use to tear him down. They won't come out and say "yes, he's too old." They'll ask the question 4000 times so it puts doubt into people's minds.
2/7/2008 3:32:17 PM
The media has nothing to do with it. 72 is getting on up there for a job that is as stressful as the presidency. Take a look at some to the before/after photos of Bush jr/Clinton/GHWBush. Throw the cancer stuff into the mix as well.Just saying you better be comfortable with whomever his VP pick is, cause I doubt he makes it through 1 term.
2/7/2008 3:37:16 PM
McCain-Guilliani ftwI mean thats the best shot rudy has at the white house anyway. If McCain can survive and win this much campaigning I think he is healthy enough to be pres.
2/7/2008 3:52:51 PM
when edwards ran in 2000 primary they said he was too young. perhaps we should set the age limit for president as 51-69
2/7/2008 4:15:46 PM
SNL would have a field day with McCain between his age, disabilities, and scars. He's like the easiest president ever to mock.
2/7/2008 4:24:30 PM
people seem to count clinton out just b/c people don't like her. not b/c of the issues. i could care less if the president is disliked for being who they are or old...as long as their policies are sound.
2/7/2008 4:40:38 PM
i still dont believe the rich white folk in this country will allow a black dude or a woman to be president quite yetsoon, but prob not this electionand should mccain reach the white house, i find it real hard to see him serving more than one term
2/7/2008 4:43:43 PM
i don't have a problem with a woman president as long as its not clinton
2/7/2008 4:47:26 PM
McCain-Rice FTW.

Maggie Thatcher kicked a fair amount of ass 30 years ago. I've got no problems voting for a woman, but Hillary sure as hell is not getting my vote if it comes to that. The absolute last thing the US needs right now is someone as polarizing as her.

i'll gladly vote for a woman if she is capable of rational thought.
2/8/2008 2:46:52 AM
Translation: I'm never voting for a woman.

these teleprompter speeches have to goi know he's just practicing for when he's behind the desk in the oval officebut these speeches have no fire...just words and inflections simply because it's written in front of him
2/12/2008 10:06:44 PM
his only consolation is that not a lot of people are watching his dead speech and not a lot of people saw obama give a rousing speech
2/12/2008 10:10:10 PM
He's not too old. He's dead.
7/5/2022 7:30:10 PM
I would vote for dead McCain over living Trump.
