I own two laptops. They are in the same building and on the same network. One currently has MS Office and the other does not. The one which does not is the one attached to the printer. No, due to security and equipment concerns, I cannot switch that arrangement. I can take the laptop with Office in and plug into the printer, but I was wondering if there was a way to share documents and printers without allowing general access to my computer and without allowing anyone else access to my computer to even try and bypass my security. Short and sweet:two laptops1 wireless networkmultiple other users on same networkwant to share files and printer without others being able to access anything on either computer

could get a wireless print server and go that route for printer access. you want to share files but not allow any access to your computer? NAS is a possibility.

1) Start -> Printers & Faxes -> Right-click on the printer, click on Sharing...2) Select the Users you want to be able to access the printer.3) Done. The printer will be shared without any files or folders, this will allow you to send a document from (laptop w/ office) directly to (printer). The downside would be that if you were to do it this way the document name (not data) would be visible on the laptop connected to the printer whenever you send a file to the printer. You can then access it the same way you would a network share.Just set your permissions up right and you'll be set for folder/file sharing[Edited on January 30, 2008 at 1:34 PM. I also have a question.... I just recently got roadrunner and we hooked a D Link wireless router to the modem. My roomate put a 128 bit encryption on it and even though I know the network key I am unable to connect to it. As of right now I have two computers, 1 runs Windows XP, but is getting ready to be sent to geek squad to get serviced, the other runs vista. When I go to wireless connections I see our network, but when I click connect it keeps sending the error (On vista). It says that the wireless security settings on the router may not be compatable with the computer, but it never even asks me to enter in the network key. (I have no knowledge with vista, I just got this computer today) The computer with Windows XP has the broadcom wireless utility and even though I am able to enter the network key it will not connect. There is no error message, it just will not connect. My roomate who set up the network is able to connect with his MAC, but can get neither of my computers to connect.. can anyone help me out to what I need to do from here especially with the computer with vista?

^^fuck...will try that tomorrow...ended up just not broadcasting the ssid and took off wpa...i dont like having it unsecured but i doubt anyone will figure out our ssid and log on to it...but i'll try that and see if i can get it working with wpa on the dell...i'm wondering if its the different companies software clashing...like belkin router with linksys usb adapter...idk both pieces of hardware have sucked on their own in prior situations...linksys worked better than my dlink usb adapter tho...that shit blew
