lies

This still won't quell the discussion, since the scenario that is repeatedly proposed by those who say the plane would not move is not really viable within the realm of mythbusters... or physics, for that matter.

Snakes on a Plane on a Treadmill?
1/27/2008 4:51:04 PM
there is no way a plane could fly if it were on a treadmill if it was going the same speedright?

the info on the guide says they are using RADIO CONTROLLED planes for the tests.

^^ the description i read a while back said they got someone to rent or loan an ultralight for a "full-scale" test.
1/27/2008 6:44:04 PM
it won't take off, why would anyone even try this?

Does anybody actually think this can happen? If you do you are a fucking moron and hope to god you did not go to NCSU.Unless I am missing something about the myth, if air doesn't move over the wings nothing will happen.[Edited on January 27, 2008 at 9:16 PM. Reason : ss]
1/27/2008 9:15:39 PM
it flies
1/27/2008 9:22:23 PM
Damn right it does. I think everybody else that is a pilot on this forum agrees on that too.[Edited on January 27, 2008 at 9:23 PM. Reason : ]
1/27/2008 9:23:07 PM
in a slightly different scenario, could they put something on a plane to hold it in place along the x-axis, but let it have freedom of movement on the y-axis, and then get massive fans to propel wind across the wings at a speed that would result in takeoff?this would be basically testing the opposite of this hypothesis.
1/27/2008 9:24:11 PM
I think I need a complete explanation of the myth
1/27/2008 9:26:42 PM
1/27/2008 9:32:48 PM
what if you take the jet engines out of the entire scenario?

1/27/2008 9:37:34 PM
Lemme try to understand this, are the wings of the plane moving forward relative to the ground?
1/27/2008 9:38:45 PM
1/27/2008 9:39:36 PM
10 pages by Wednesday night?I tried to explain this to my wife and that fucking simpleton thinks it does not move. She will be feeling quite stupid come Wed. night.
1/27/2008 9:42:11 PM
For the love of god.Yes, the wings are moving relative to the ground. The treadmill is just making the wheels spin faster, they have absolutely no bearing on the plane moving foward.
1/27/2008 9:42:28 PM
when it was explained to me the person said that the tread mill went really fast which would somehow make the plane fly. nothing about the engines being usedso now I get it.[Edited on January 27, 2008 at 9:49 PM. Reason : dfg]
