Actually, someone who goes to State but it is a Carolina fan (and doesn't like State) is far more respectable than someone who roots for State because they go there AND roots for Duke or UNC... we have like a dozen or more Dookies on here that like State too... I never understood that.

Not reallySome people are brought up from the moment their born as fans of one school18 years later, they choose to go a different school for collegeMaybe they couldn't get in to the favorite school, or their favorite school is below the academic tier they've placed themselves in through their high school coursework and testing. They can't be expected to abandon 18 years of loyalty just to root for their new school, especially if that new school happens to be a rival of their favorite college.I came in to college as a blank slate...I didn't have a favorite school growing up; I was mainly into pro sports. So when I came to State, I easily adopted them as 'My Team'. But if I grew up a Tarheel fan, and I didn't get in to Chapel Hill (which I didn't) and went to NC State as a consolation, I'd sure as hell still be rooting for the Tar Heels.

Its a lot easier when the schools don't play each other regularlySay I grew up and LSU fan and went to college here at State...I could root for both teams except for the rare occasions when they played each otherIts only really an issue when your favorite school and the school you attend are in the same conference or state, or at traditional rivals like Notre Dame and USC

but what's the point of college sports if you pull against your own school? schools play for their students and alums, not for douchebags who grew up a fan of theirs and went somewhere else.that's like rooting for the chinese in the olympics.
1/26/2008 4:59:18 PM
I'd rather root for China than UNC

lol, good point.nc state > usa

Say you got into App State or Carolina, you pulled a couple years there and transferred to State for Engineering or whatever, who do you pull for then when your old team and new team play each other?
1/26/2008 5:05:03 PM
NC State, no matter where you go or end up
1/26/2008 5:06:33 PM
So you go for the 2nd school or your current school.

It's all good. Last summer the guy at the Cookout window wanted to talk crap because I was wearing a State shirt and he was a Carolina fan. The sad thing is, according to him, he went to State. Seems like he should of been going to Carolina all along, what with flipping burgers and all. Things tend to work out as they should. Maybe the same thing will happen to your sister's boyfriend. Either that or he turns out to be as gay as the team he pulls for and ends your reason for worry.
