that same guy has done a lot of cool things with the wii and the wiimote. the head tracking is badasshttp://www.youtube.com/user/jcl5m]
1/24/2008 6:08:55 PM
pretty fucking cool
1/24/2008 6:12:20 PM
that's awesome. the targets were playin with my head a little.

Yeah, this was posted in the wii thread a month ago.message_topic.aspx?topic=404612&page=99#11058476

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/I'm working on getting my laptop set-up to be touchscreen...
1/24/2008 7:54:42 PM
ok.. I may need someone to PM me on this instead of yelling at me in this thread. But could somebody with NO C# experience download Visual C# and pull this off?Could I just follow his process and copy paste shit?
1/24/2008 9:17:24 PM
he writes some pretty detailed README files, I've gotten the laptop touchscreen up with very little effort. I don't know C# though, so I can't really answer the question.
1/24/2008 9:56:52 PM
^So wait, you did his touchscreen one?? I'd be happy with that. But you would of had to have used C#... right?[Edited on January 25, 2008 at 1:19 PM. Reason : e]

i like the part where he dances in front of the TV at about 4:00
1/25/2008 1:44:17 PM
for the touchscreen:all I did was connect the Wiimote to my laptop via bluetooth, downloaded his calibration software, and got a little led keychain flashlight, and I was in business. That's it. Literally took all of 10 min to get it up an running. No C# needed at all. I didn't try any of the others though.
1/25/2008 2:38:33 PM
Sweetness..doing that tonight! It doesn't change anything with the Wii remote correct? It will still be ok to use with the console?
1/25/2008 4:03:46 PM
pics or it didnt happen
1/25/2008 4:07:39 PM
yeah, changes nothing with the wiimote, drains the battery a good bit though.
1/25/2008 4:11:26 PM
I have a charger And did you buy an infrared LED light??? Or just a regular? I though it HAD to be infrared.
1/25/2008 4:30:02 PM
I found this little keychain flashlight that worked, it wasn't perfect, but I also didn't put too much effort into my placement of the wiimote. That's the hardest part is getting the wiimote set-up to receive the signal from whatever direction where your hand isn't interfering with the light.
1/25/2008 4:34:37 PM
that is bad ass
1/25/2008 4:42:59 PM
This is now the coolest use of a Wiimote so far. I hope the developers see this and make games utilizing the technology.
1/25/2008 6:03:31 PM
you can buy iR keychain lights online for cheap.this guy is genius.his ideas will go far.
1/26/2008 12:20:21 AM
I bet a standard laser-pointer would work for the interactive white board. I'm going to try it out. If not I have IR LED's.
1/26/2008 4:45:19 PM
holy fucking god this guy is going to be a millionaire..if somebody else doesn't steal his ideas
1/26/2008 6:23:06 PM
yeah, seriously. Not only does he have one good idea, he has a whole set of great idea's. I hope he patented his tech and creates his own products/solutions. I can see the needs in business applications and undercut expensive solutions, or those educational smart boards.
1/27/2008 1:32:51 AM
well it looks like all his really good projector works is being done in research groups at Carnegie Mellon, but curiously he's the only one you ever see in the videos (and he is very good on video, at that)http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/thesis/but there are no other names on his Wiimote project page. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/hopefully he has gone though the process to protect his IP, but who knows - maybe he's just creating these ideas and platforms and releasing them as free and open source. Either way, he'll have his CSC PhD soon, and after that i suppose he'll just stay in academia or will get a good research job at Google or Nintendo or MS or some leading edge software companyhttp://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/academic/

I made a video of my setup:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tB6J7Ig9r0I was never very good with this kind of electronic stuff, but I am very proud of myself for this one [Edited on February 2, 2008 at 12:18 AM. Reason : headtracking vid is uploading...]
