Unless you have a job lined up and a valid work visa don't even thing about it.... unless you're rich and can just hang out.

the one time i went there was a soccer trip for 2 tournaments, and i was 17 and not really paying attention to anything but soccer and some castle in wales

i want to move to barcelona, but decided to move to tahoe first to try to save some money bc i was worried it might be hard to find work as an american, although i still really want to live in barcelona for some amount of time, i think you could probably find work, i still might go soon, but definetly want to go to tahoe since it's winter and all

i was gonna go and not even worry about any kind of visa and just try to find under the table work at a small pub or something, but idk you think i should just get a visa instead? probably not that hard right?

So a pub owner would give an American illegal "under the table" work for what reason exactly? A shortage of willing and able European workers?

Consider also that Europe is considerably more expensive than the US (higher income tax and ~19% sales tax on everything). Think about how your lifestyle would be in the US with a full time pub job. Now imagine yourself poorer, and in the country illegally (no visa).

well i feel pretty confident you could find a locally owned pub where the owner would let you tend the bar for tips, at the very least work in the kitchen, i mean plenty of mexicans work in america right? it's not really THAT inconceivable.

and it's not really about the money man...if i was worried about that i would've stayed in nyc.

I see two problems here: First, if you hope to make a living wage off tips in Europe you better be slinging more than drinks.

Second, Europe does have mexicans, only they call them Poles and Czechs. However, the difference between them and you is that they are legally allowed to work in the EU and likely require a MUCH lower wage.

I doubt you'd get away with it. Europe doesn't have quite the illegal immigration problem the US has. The US basically ignored it for too long and now Mexicans are a critical part of our economy. That's why they get away with it.

You need a work visa to be in the country legally beyond a certain period of time, and for that an employer has to show that there isn't a qualified employee from (country X) available for the position. For pub work, I doubt that would ever be the case. For professional work, that's a different story. With an American accent, you'll stick out like a sore thumb. Eventually someone's going to ask you for your papers.

If youre interested in Sweden you could always apply for grad school, the residence visa youll get as a result will allow you to work legally. Or you could always meet a swedish girl and become her 'sambo'. Essentially this grants you all of the benefits of marriage without the long term contract.
