the Prometric Testing Center where I was scheduled to take the GRE this morning is closeda sign said that they would contact me to rescheduleI am ready to take it now... what the fuck?

Prometric is teh devil. Those people who "run" the testing centers are some of the dumbest people I've ever met.

I got the same thing for my kidney transplant
1/19/2008 9:00:37 AM
there's no snow on the groundnot even windyits like fucking 35 degrees outside
1/19/2008 9:07:08 AM
now you get more time to study
1/19/2008 9:07:56 AM
yeah but I was readyI know I could study more, surebut I also have my literature competency exam coming up that I need to study for if I want to graduateand my grad school application has to be in by Feb. 15th... it takes 10-15 days to get your scores from ETSI hope they don't fuck me up
1/19/2008 9:20:50 AM
hopefully theyll just bump it to next saturday. bummer
1/19/2008 9:22:12 AM
if possible I need to take it earlier than next Saturdayif the 10-15 day period for scores to return is counted in BUSINESS days I'd be cutting it fucking close waiting until next saturdayfucking crap
1/19/2008 9:27:21 AM
good luck with that dude.
1/19/2008 9:35:40 AM
stupid horrible shitmakes me want a cigaretteso, what would you guys consider to be a decent GRE score?so far my practice test scores have been 1040 and 1080 (without the writing sections which I'm sure I will do very well on)
1/19/2008 9:44:44 AM
for engineering as long as you did well on the math >750 you were good because thats all that mattersi would imagine that the reverse is true for you and as long as you do >700 on verbal and great on the writing you should be fine
1/19/2008 9:50:12 AM
over 1200 is decentAlso like the poster said above the section score is very important. If you're going into the humanities you will want to get as high as possible on verbal and writing. Sciences want high in the math section. Social Sciences often like a balance with scores in the 600's on both sections (preferably the mid 600's) along with a good writing score. Also, remember this only a small piece of the entire application process if your scores don't come out good. We have plenty of students that had average scores (with other stronger parts in there application) that our currently in our program.[Edited on January 19, 2008 at 10:05 AM. my practice scores have broken down like so:1st testVerbal: 550Quant: 4902nd testVerbal: 570Quant: 510I hear that the practice tests are harder than the real thing so I'm hoping my real score will be higher. I suppose more practice/studying won't hurt but damn if I don't want to get this out of the way.

What practice tests are you taking? The Kaplan CD ones were about 200 below my actual score, the GRE cd was about 80 less. I took it in Nov. before I applied to avoid the last minute stress while filling out apps. I thought I'd take it twice but did well enough the first time a repeat would have been pointless. If you are getting below 600 in math on the practice tests I'd say don't waste your money applying to engineering grad school unless you know someone. Of the 11 people in my class and major about half of us that took the GRE got an 800 on the math. I suspect the others went out drinking the night before.

I'm doing the Princeton Review tests and using the book Cracking The GREI'm not an engineer and I won't be applying to an engineering grad programI'm a literature major and I'm applying to a Media Studies grad program
1/19/2008 10:16:08 AM
okay, you're an engish major. No idea what good scores are for that, but I think my engineering friends did about the same as you on the verbal. You'll need a 5.5 or 6.0 on the analytical writing I'm guessing. That's the top 15% or so. Just look at what % of applicants the program accepts, and figure that you need to be in that range on the test, since GRE isn't everything but the %ages are a combo of all majors.
1/19/2008 10:20:43 AM
I think I'll do fairly well on the analytical writingand when it comes down to actually doing the test I'll do better on all fronts because I'll be focusedI was eating dinner, talking to people and I even took a phone call during my second try and I still made a 40 point improvement
1/19/2008 11:37:07 AM
i wasn't ready for mine... but i got a 1200 and the college was happy with that i guess. but i'm also in a field that isn't leaning toward math or verbal. it's all science, which wasn't part of my test. [Edited on January 19, 2008 at 11:40 AM. Reason : i know we use verbal, but it's not like we practice]
1/19/2008 11:38:59 AM
the worst shit is that I had to turn down a freelance tech gig today (Lt. Governor debates) that would have paid me $15/hr
1/19/2008 11:39:26 AM
I didn't do good/well on the SAT at all, but somehow (by the grace of God?) I got a 1450+ on the GRE.

1/19/2008 11:43:48 AM
that's encouragingfrom those estimates I'm looking at 1240-1280I can live with that
