I would love a Dodge Nitro or Escape but they cant be touched by the price of the patriot and the lifetime powertrain warranty ftw

Not a bad looking vehicle IMO, kind of like a Commander Jr. with round headlights. Looks aside, I don't suppose it's much different than most small SUV's, especially with the unlimited powertrain warranty. Shares a platform with the Mitsubishi Outlander and the smaller Jeep Compass, FYI.

I do have to ask though--why do you *need* an SUV, considering you listed gas mileage as a primary constraint and 4wd/awd as a non-issue?

Drove one last night and that tranny sucks. Will keep the explorer now or see if they will deal on a Colorado

No, it fucks with your mind. It just revs and stays there then on downshift it was weird.

i think the patriot is going to have a diesel next year. that'll be the best way to go if you're looking for decent mpg's.

Thats a pretty sweet deal, you can get a limited with tow package for like 22k.

If you drive a shit ton of miles a year that car would pay for itself pretty quick in not having to deal with repairs if you keep it forever, and good gas prices.

Escapes were horrible on reliability and recalls when they first came out. Better hope they have gotten better over the years.

And they are FWD iirc.

Switched over to civic accord now, cant see paying that much for something that gets shitty gas mileage.

well after a week now I must say I'm very happy w/ the jeep. i got mine stripped w/ cvt and 4x4 for around 18.5K and even after reading that article I must say its real nice, VERY comfortable, and I think it drives real well. not springy like my ford sport trac. the tranny is different, but you quickly learn how to drive it. all and all I think its a great deal, and I personally would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a suv

there is absolutely no point whatsover in something like a Patriot

if you are going to use it as a car, get a fucking car. it will--and i know this is going to blow some of your minds--do a better job of being a car than any truck or faux-truck ever will.
