I used to do this all the time back in the day with my grandpa. Just recently got back doing it. Don't do it all the time, but some sliced apple with some salt is good eats.

I don't even want to think about how bad that would taste... like throwing up in my own mouth, I imagine.

Salt on apples is actually really good. You should give it a try some time.

My best friend when I was growing up used to cut a lemon in half, cover the halves in salt, and then eat after letting it sit for 5-10mins.

really, a light sprinlking of salt should only bring out more of the flavor of the apple in the end.

Works on the same principle of seasoning ANY food. Salty is not a flavor you normally try to achieve, you just use the salt to round out the flavors of the food.

I sprinkle salt on tomatoes, melons, apples, pears, etc. Not citrus though, the acid works essentially the same way the salt does, so it would just fuck up the flavor IMO.

I've never eaten an apple with salt. If I'm going to dress it up, I'll use cinnamon and sugar.

My grandpa used to put salt in his beer... not sure what that does for the taste.

No salt, but I'm with you^ on the cinnamon.

Also, Wawa has the cut up apples in a cup w/ caramel for dipping...that's delicious.

My grandmother used to put salt on my apples, but that's because she put it on pretty much anything she could. It was good, I thought, but not something I would be likely to do on my own.

The idea isn't to make it SALTY. I covered that before. It is to develop the flavors. Some peoples palates require more salt than others. The true key is to let the salt sit for a minute to dissolve first. Then you even take the chance of getting a grain of salt away and allow the flavors to truly meld.

I NEVER eat watermelon withut salt, and usually, not cantaloupe either. Sometimes though, cantaloupe is so good that it don't need salt.

The average intake in the United States is between 4,000 and 5,000 mg of sodium per day.

The US sodium RDA of less than 2,400 mg is higher than the UK Recommended Nutritional Intake (RNI) whose upper limit for sodium is 1,600 mg.

thankfully, i don't take in that much salt...though the chili that's slowly cooking in the crock pot right now (done in 7 hours, baby!) probably has more than enough salt for my daily intake

yeah, but three quarters of "the average intake" is from bullshit processed foods

not salt added "at the table"

fresh mozzarella cheese, slice of tomato, and balsamic also ftw (although it has nothing to do with salt really, except the cheese and dressing are pretty salty)
