(FREQUENTLY ASININE QUIPS)

WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

A 24-hour endurance-race weekend for cars costing $500 or less.

COME AGAIN?

The 24 Hours of LeMons is a weekend-long race for cars purchased, fixed up, and track-prepped for total of $500 or less. Each team must also survive qualifying rounds such as the Marxist Parking Valet, the Widdling Rottweiler Slalom, and/or the Stoney Bike-Messenger Shooting Gallery. Generally, track racing begins at 4:00 pm Saturday and runs until 4 pm Sunday, with a late-night intermission for sleeping, eating, and Band-Aid application. Count on plenty of noise, prizes, water fights, and questionably civilized fun before, during, and after the track sessions. Finally, assuming you're still standing, there's the gala awards ceremony which presents trophies, plaques, and winner's purses paid out in nickels.

"

coming to CMP in june or july

$500 per car, $100 per drive, $75 per non driver, each team needs 4-6 drivers.

get sponsored and ill be on your team

This is the closest event. I'd sign up as a driver if someone puts together a car. I have insane endurance when it comes to sleep deprivation.

sounds fun, but a little uptight. here's where i lost interest:

Quote :
"Think NASA roadrace, not NASCAR enduro. Lots of incidental contact is inevitable, but intentional bumping will be black-flagged and punished by pit penalties, tarring and feathering (honest), and/or expulsion. It got pretty hairy in '06, so we've hired our own new track steward to flag and mete out punishments--and he comes from vintage racing, for crying out loud."

oh, and:

Quote :
"6.1: Individual Lousy-Driving Rule: Lousy driving--which includes, but is not limited to, unnecessary contact, overly aggressive driving, chopping off other cars, unsportsmanlike conduct, lack of car control, just generally being an idiot, and/or proving an undue pain in the butt to fellow competitors--will result in a black-flag penalty for Lousy Driving.

6.3: Why Am I Upside-Down? Rule: You're upside-down because you have no business being out on a racetrack. Any driver who puts a car on its roof is out for the rest of the season, beginning immediately. "

i'd still be down for putting something together if anyone else was seriously interested though. if you think this would be fun, you should also check out the U car series they run at a lot of the local circle tracks. very similar.

personally, if banger racing ever comes around here sign me up:

I'd be willing to help in whatever way possible as well. Might not want me as a driver, since I don't actually have any track experience whatsoever, but...

So $500 to enter a car.
$100 per driver x 4-6 drivers
$75 per crew x 2

$1050- $1250 just to participate? plus the $500 for the car in the first place?

I read the "$500 per car" as "allow $500 for the purchase and prep of your car", not a $500 entry fee.
