Who in history has ever mailed a textbook for 2.49. The envelopes are 2.00 and shipping by media mail is like $4.XX.Furthermore why would anyone want a textbook shipped media mail which takes like a week, when priority is like $2.00 more and gets there in two days.

Its great for buying when the bookstores are out of used, but if you are selling on there bend over.
1/14/2008 11:20:30 AM
you can get most books just as cheap, if not cheaper, at textbooksruswith 99 cents shipping per book
1/14/2008 11:20:46 AM
1/14/2008 11:21:03 AM
OK I guess the guy at the post office register was just pulling my leg.
1/14/2008 11:23:50 AM
Did you verify that he rung it up at media mail?I have tried to calculate a sample textbook shipping on usps.com, but I can't find a way to get media mail. And yes, I really do think you got fucked. It's cheap to send Media Mail. But this thread has gotten me to list some textbooks, so when I finally sell one, I'll let you know. It won't be $4+ for media mailhttp://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/ratesandfees.htm#wp1023384your textbook would have had to weight more than 5lbs, at least[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 11:28 AM. i love half.com- i always get more money from those sales than i do by selling back to a store
1/14/2008 12:02:16 PM
People sold me like 2 Teacher's editions off there last semester. This meant that I could not sell them back. I would not have even bought them if they had been honest and said that they were TEs.
1/14/2008 12:05:49 PM
Honestly, if I'm buying anywhere else but the bookstore, I don't plan on being able to sell it back to the bookstore. Use TWW or Half or some other site for that.
1/14/2008 12:15:32 PM
I take my packages to this Postal Annex place and they charged me like six bucks to send out a hardcover textbook via media mail. I mean I guess they add their own markup on there, but it still seemed pricey.[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Reason : ^^That happened to me. Left negative feedback, got a refund for the whole price and got to keep it.]

half.com blows...anyone with a brain knows amazon is better and cheaper anywaysonly thing half.com is good for is finding the book and getting an isbn to search on amazon
1/14/2008 1:25:58 PM
oh since i read this thread i'd like to add:i always buy "sellable back to the bookstore" books...that way i dont get fucked...typically i get more back from the bookstore than i originally paid...never sold a book at half.com/amazon, because to me, i will take 5 bucks less to get cash instantly, plus i dont feel like logging into the site and doing all that shit, then having to buy an envelope, and all that other bullshit...i'd rather post on tww than worry about that gayness, plus i'm probably making money(see earlier comment) on selling it to the bookstore anywaysi ALWAYS make sure to know if the book has cd's or supplements, cause the bookstore is anal about that[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 1:34 PM. Reason : i have never not been pleased by buying online]
1/14/2008 1:31:12 PM
^^I always shop around for every book I buy, and I find the books cheaper at half.com the majority of the time. It is rare that I buy one from amazon.
1/14/2008 1:35:18 PM
i typically come out 10-15 cheaper(3-4 books) using amazon...this time i lucked out and got 2 books with super shipper savings or whatever that free shipping thing amazon has[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 1:37 PM. Reason : number of books for 10-15 cheaper]
1/14/2008 1:37:00 PM

1/14/2008 1:55:31 PM
anyone have to get a course pack at sir speedy today? motherfucker was PACKED...they dont have my coursepack in yet...wtf
1/14/2008 2:09:32 PM
I was in there today. The skipped a guy and he panicked i laughed
1/14/2008 5:45:53 PM
I'm calling USPS tomorrow. supposedly, it costs an additional $0.41 if you've included a packing slip (i.e., don't own up to including one)And either the link I posted up there is horribly wrong, or there's something shady going on, because according to it, the 4lb textbook I shipped today should have cost $2.82, but it was $3.6xThat said...If you're paying $2 for an envelope, you're an idiot. 3packs at kmart of the ones one size up from 8.5x11 come out to either $0.93 or $0.97; singles are $1.69.http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm100/postage.htm[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 6:03 PM. Reason : link up there is wrong. wtf. ]

If the book is less than 3 lbs, you can usually make money off the shipping that amazon or half charges. Anything over that and you're costing yourself money. Most sellers do this to beef up their positive feedback rating because the books that are going for this rate are old editions and aren't worth anything to them.[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 5:59 PM. 1/17/2008 5:59:38 PM
My book today fit in the flat rate envelope and still cost $5 dollar bucks to ship.
1/17/2008 6:45:05 PM
just got my 3rd and last book off amazon today
1/17/2008 7:08:16 PM
I buy books at yard sales and library sales and sell them on half.com.....at any given time, i have more than 100 books listed....I ship everything media mail and for a textbook IT DOES NOT COST $4.00. For a regular book it costs ~$2.47 and a textbook ships for about ~$2.87And with envelopes if you are smart and buy them from a warehouse club come out to cost much less than $2/envelope.
1/17/2008 7:27:06 PM
i would think if you buy envelopes at a warehouse place they are gonna end up costing like 30 cents per envelope
1/17/2008 7:29:48 PM
Not that you'd get them from U-line, but...http://www.uline.com/Browse_Listing_1257.asp?desc=Kraft+Uline+Self+Seal

half.com is great. It nearly doubles the salvage value of your textbooks compared to the ncsu bookstores.
1/17/2008 8:22:55 PM
Ok these books were sold like the second week of Jan and still no money for them.
