might be one of dumbest ever. Who makes a commercial for their own brand (which has a large menu of things) where they proudly announce that it's one item, the 'whopper' which is the ONLY reason they come to BK? I mean if the whopper is the only thing worthy then I'm thinking the rest of the menu is pointless and perhaps they'd save a lot of money in supplies by eliminating everything else. Furthermore, is the Whopper really that great? I don't know, I haven't eaten BK in years and now that they've themselves confirmed that besides the 'whopper' everything else sucks, I won't be going there any time soon.I mean it's like going to Disneyland and having 'Space Mountain' shut down where by their own admission, every other ride sucks and isn't worth shit and will probably make you sick. This sort of reminds me of the Quiznos campaign with the rat creatures. Sure it's memorable, but not in a good way... I've been to Quiznos a total of 0 times since that campaign. gg?]]

I'm not a huge fan of BK, but I watched the history of the Whopper on National Geographic HD the other day and I've been craving them ever since.
1/13/2008 6:29:46 PM
i hate these commercialsand i think its funny that these people get so worked up about the damn whoppermaybe some of you would be healthier if whoppers were indeed taken off the menubut don't go comparing them to the quiznos rat commercialsi fucking loved those things i still <3 you m2c

One good thing about BK is that they aren't afraid to use lots of mayo. My taste buds have shifted in the last year from hating everything about mayo to loving it
1/13/2008 6:31:11 PM
i watched the whopperfreakout.com video last night.thought it was funny, i kinda like it.
1/13/2008 6:33:02 PM
seriously, i had a long convo with an employee at the beverly hills bk i was at yesterday
1/13/2008 6:33:11 PM
agreed with mayo, it makes the sandwichas far as BK, it is the best fast food aside from KFCthe chicken sandwich, #9 is the best chicken sandwich in the business, better than bojangles

well bbehe, that topic was a little different and this topic isn't so much about the people freaking out or who has the best burgers, it's about crappy marketing.Well the Quizno rats themselves made me laugh...because I know what their origination was...but it didn't make me want Quiznos. Here's a great idea for a commercial that will be memorable...how about a commercial for one of the cell providers (let's say Verizon) where they have someone of their customers play a 'joke' on someone they know that has a different service provider (say AT&T) and upon answering the phone have the person on the other end say, "Oh my God, there's a huge car accident on the freeway so I and your father are running late. They're airlifting the injured to the hospital but 5 people are already dead so we're getting off the road now..." But have them purposely cut out the words (as if it's a bad signal) so all the person on the other end hears is something like, "Oh my God, ***** * **** accident ** *** freeway ****** your father **********. ******* airlifting ***** **** **** hospital ******* ***** ***** dead ** ***** **** now..."That would be a memorable commercial, no?

It's still better than the Hardees commercials of 30 seconds of loud chewing.

I still maintain that the Whopper Jr is the best $1 you can spend in a fast food place.Aside from Bo-berry biscuits.
1/13/2008 10:35:10 PM
if they sell it for $1, i wonder how much it costs them to make it...
1/13/2008 10:35:47 PM
^how much does it cost to puree a bunch of road kill specimens? amirite?
1/13/2008 10:42:16 PM

^^^^No. And that's my point...did they make a memorable commercial? yes. did they make me want their product? no. Any company that advertises the fact that even THEY only make 1 decent product out of the 100 that they sell isn't gonna get my business.Hence my fake Verizon ad up there. Can you imagine if they really did that? Making people actually think, if even for 30 seconds, that a loved one had been in a deadly car accident? I guarantee that commercial would be memorable but their efforts of effective persuasion are badly flawed.Even the 'Head-On' commercials while annoying, were effective because had there been 1/100,000 of them, I probably would dismiss the ad each time I see it which would be like maybe 2 times a week...they made it impossible to ignore and I have no doubt that every bit of money that went into that ad campaign when to buying media time and not on the second, third, fourth, fifth rate production (or lack of). Also, if you notice, and maybe I watch too much CourtTV but the voice in the BK ad is the same voice used for shows like 'Forensic Files' and when I see the 'home video' like shots in the BK commercial with the voice from Forensic Files, it turns me off even more.?]
1/13/2008 11:44:42 PM
The point is not to show that they only make the Whopper... it's just their main item that everyone knows the name of... I mean, really, would it make a good commercial to start refusing people generic things like fries and/or onion rings? They've got to center it around their primary item or there's no point. The point is to show that people don't want burgers that are not from BK. The fact is that they're videotaping actual people (as far as I know, anyway) saying that they don't like Wendy's (or ect) burgers, and they come to BK because the Whopper is better. And that actually is good marketing.
1/13/2008 11:57:40 PM
its the same with mcdonalds, other than big mac, they aint got nothing
1/13/2008 11:59:05 PM
i think theyre great
1/14/2008 12:05:16 AM
The commercial obviously worked. Its got people talking about and remembering their product. Is the commercial going to have the same effect on everyone? Nope. Some commercials are intended to be stupid, those are the ones people remember the most, its a marketing ploy. The fact this thread was made shows just how effective that commercial is.[Edited on January 14, 2008 at 1:25 AM. Reason : .]
1/14/2008 1:25:11 AM
yup, a different effect on everyone. This was my reaction. If this commercial actually brings in more sales, then I will have to conclude that the majority of Americans are indeed, fucking retarted.1. Have company spend years developing assorted food items, brand recognition, etc.2. Spend billions of dollars in marketing, pr, advertising to try persuade the public that their company/brand/food is the best choice out there.3. Wait a while and then declare publicly that out of the hundreds of items on their menu, the only one that is even good is a lone burger.4. Profit.
1/14/2008 2:11:12 AM
is the whopper not just a regular hamburger?!
