its fine with HDMI, if you have a surround sound setup youve gotta get autio to the surround sound somehow, so you optical.cable is like $20, prolly cheaper online[Edited on January 11, 2008 at 2:20 PM. Reason : ]

the receiver has HDMI for both audio/video
1/11/2008 2:18:22 PM
hmm, i would just say optical because its much cheaper. unless you have an extra cable.

just play the good nerd role Mark and do whatever is most expensive or difficult and then post about it later
1/11/2008 2:23:04 PM
the nerd role would be the cheapest and most complex way to do it. With a home made HDMI or optical cable.paging Quinn

HDMI for loss lessoptical otherwise99% of the time you might as well go optical.... unless you're a bat with over $2000 in speakers
1/11/2008 2:50:18 PM
HDMI would be better I guess then.
1/11/2008 2:54:35 PM
Is this a real thread or even a real question? I can't imagine that it is. If you have HDMI already running to your A/V receiver, why the hell would you even consider using optical for anything at that point? Someone lock this shit.
1/11/2008 2:54:40 PM
cause optical has a cool red light.
1/11/2008 2:55:08 PM
wait, the ps3 has one hdmi port. unless you are using 5way components for your video i dont think there is a way you can use 2 hdmis. if there is lemme know.hdmi from ps3 to TV and optical from ps3 to receiver [Edited on January 11, 2008 at 3:24 PM. Reason : ]

I support suspending you for being a dumbass.

optical is better
1/11/2008 4:42:26 PM
Assuming everything's HDMI 1.3, use HDMI.Actually, you should probably just use HDMI regardless.

shit, i had found a excellent website explaining all of the audio codecs, ac3, pcm, true HD, etc, and the corresponding audio connections. basically the compressed audio means it clips out parts of the sound your speakers are more than likely not capable of reproducing, much less of you hearing, espcially if you've been to any kind of concert ever[Edited on January 11, 2008 at 8:14 PM.
