MittI dunnoI don't know I would support a electing a guy with the same name of something that most Americans oil up and catch balls with
1/8/2008 8:50:43 PM
ehh Mitt could win MichiganGot to hope for the unresolved convention anyways
1/8/2008 8:54:45 PM
I like Mitt. If Mitt doesn't make it, then I guess I'll be voting democratic this time around. McCain looks like he's about to fall over and die anytime now. Huckabee is too bible thumping for me (even though I'm technically a Christian... that's another story). And I don't think Thompson is going to be able to provide the change that everyone is looking for in the White House.
1/9/2008 10:37:02 AM
Romney has the most delegates right now.If Romney wins I'm voting 3rd party. Period.Thompson isn't, and never was, a real presidential candidate.
1/9/2008 10:38:16 AM
The Daily Show had a scene where Romney got straight called out on an ad he ran that was completely false. He said he had never seen it. They then played the part where it said he approved that message. Point? Basically he's the biggest toolbag ever.

Im liking Romney more and more. The fact that McCain can push that amnesty bill and still win NH makes me wonder about NH republicans. He should simply not be able to recover from such a mistep.Romney ran a business and his views on immigration are points I like about the man.I agree Thompson has been such a disappointment.Id vote huckabee if he could get the fairtax to pass. But I would rather romney or rudy support the fairtax.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=9jyMW3Lzq_w^^^ Here is that video you're talking about. Typical politician change of stance when you get yourself stuck between a rock and a hard spot. All the other candidates would have executed a similar form of denial. Just the nature of a politician (unless your the almighty Ron Paul who's never wrong). But, in my opinion, compared to the other republican candidates, he's the lesser evil. Others will disagree.[Edited on January 9, 2008 at 10:56 AM. Reason : edit]

^ That's definitely it. I think it was that smug little smirk he had on his face when he gets called out that reminds me of someone... can't think of who though.

^I dont have a hardone against mexicans. Im sorry but I dont think someone should be rewarded for breaking the law. There should be no special path to citizenship. To have a policy that states one group is special and the rules dont apply to them is bad, and will only create resentment among others. We have rules/policies and they should be followed. Get in line. Now if we could keep the working illegals and deport the entitlement class.. Im all for it.

^monky, I guess where I feel strongly on this issue is bc I had a friend who is a graduate from state. He didnt fill out his paperwork to get an extention on his visa. He had a job, college grad, etc... and he was deported. To deport him and let in the rest simply bc of thier numbers and location is ridiculous. It took him 2 years to get back into the US and is still working on his citizenship. He gets PISSED at the thought of amnesty and I can see his point.Oh, and i was making a joke about deporting the american entitlement class.
1/9/2008 3:06:38 PM
I'm also dealing with getting someone in the US on a Visa and I hate the process. It seems like the biggest problems with the Visa system now is that DHS has slowed everything down since 9/11 and quadrupled the fees (no joke) with almost no tangible claims (other than the slowdown).I think something has to be done, and I'm not for rewarding people that have broken the law. However, on the whole I think we'd profit immensely from giving these people a legal way to get into the country and enter our system (as well as try to pay back into the system through taxes, fines, etc).

^^ Yes, legal immigrants do feel jipped. Like I mentioned in other threads... it took my aunt several years and thousands of dollars to get just a work Visa. Partially to really come and work, but partially to see my aging grandmother before she passes away (who lives in the US on a green card).

Romney will lose Michigan because of the open primary. He'll probably win a plurality of the Republican votes. I wonder if he shouldn't stick around for a while. The conservatives may decide he is their only option. They don't like McCain and Huckabee is a certain disaster. Giuliani seems to be fizzling also.

I love the two completely contrary arguments against immigration (that's code for, "reasons we hate mexicans").1. They're shiftless, lazy, dirty, drunken criminals who don't speak our language.2. They're taking our jobs.If your job is in danger of being taken by someone who can't speak english and came here stinking of stale sweat and tequila. If that guy was more qualified than you perhaps you should consider suicide.

^^ That's exactly how I've felt about it. If someone who can't speak english and who has no vocational training is more qualified then you, it's your own fault. You shouldn't have dropped out of community college.

As long as there are people in this country who would rather take welfare or unemployment than take a minimum wage job we should welcome immigrants. I know it's a cliched stereotype, but the guy taking a welfare check because he believes that flipping burgers is beneath him, or the guy who only tries to get a job so he can get fired and collect unemployment (believe me, there are plenty of these people, I've had at least 3 in the last year) are much less worthy of being in this country than the mexican guy who painted your house and who you inexplicably hate. Not everyone grows up to be an astronaut, and the hard truth is, just like my dad always told me, "the world needs ditch diggers too." The only question is who will be doing it.

1/19/2008 10:08:18 PM
Kurtis, you dumb, mother fucker. You do realize that all of these illegal immigrants take more money than the average welfare momma, right?
1/19/2008 10:16:32 PM
They take more money than the average native but not more than the average welfare momma. If you control for poverty, they take less welfare money on average for their level of income. Our native working-poor actually consume more resources than illegal immigrant working-poor.Amusingly, forcing companies to fire illegal immigrants who worked under false or invalid SSN's is what's made them much more expensive since they can no longer easily work jobs that pay social security taxes. Jobs that pay under the table have never paid taxes though obviously- but many of those communities actually claim less federal assistance. Migrant workers, for example, aren't often able to avail themselves of welfare. I know this is being nit-picky though as illegal immigrants do often escape taxation and many are still able to receive some portion of aid. While it would clearly be inhuman to deny basic assistance to children simply because their parents brought them here illegally, there is some fair-sense behind denying access to aid programs to illegal immigrants. The thing is, they just don't cost nearly as much as people try to make it sound. Since many of them do not claim assistance or are partially denied assistance already, replacing them would mean a larger native working poor population- a group with full access and near-full awareness of programs. Supporting a larger native working-poor in place of these illegal immigrants wouldn't necessarily mean a large cost savings. [Edited on January 19, 2008 at 11:49 PM. Reason : ]
