Now that LSU has beaten tOSU like all of us non-Ohio State dickriders knew would happen.....

What about the possibility of a split NC for the AP?

I think it will be hillarious if we got a 3-way split between LSU, USC, and UGA. Kansas didn't play anybody or beat anybody to put them in contention.

The current system sucks. It's money driven and leaves a lot of doubt to who the true champion should be.

those are indeed nice, but topic at hand having a 2 loss natl champ feels kinda lame, after watching bowl games id love to see lsu, usc, uga, and wvu in a 4 team playoff

^a playoff would just increase the odds of having a national champion with multiple losses.

but it is funny that lsu wins another NC in a year where there never was a clear-cut favorite.

That's fine, I meant more along the lines of having a 2 loss natl champion doesnt make me believe they are the best team in the country.

i think that one of the problems is that not every conference has a championship game

that needs to change

This system is crap. The whole purpous is to provide a game where #1 plays #2, and that hasn't even been the case half of the time since this started. I know there are years where it is iffy between 1-3 or 4, but anyone who watched football knew tOSU needed to get the fuck out of this game.

The system has only really worked once right in my mind, and that gave us Texas vs. USC. Outside that, I'd rather just the traditional bowl matchups from pre-BCS and the voters can sort it out from there. At least the bowl games were all around better, this year was the shittiest batch of BCS bowl games.

^^They can't because they have to be a 12 team conference to do so.

The Big East, Big 10, Pac 10 all have too little amount of teams.

Ok let's examine this.

LSU lost to Kentucky and Arkansas in 3OT each. Kentucky and Arkansas both went to bowl games, with UK winning theirs and Arkansas losing theirs well b/c their coach left and they were playing a team that should have been in a BCS game.

USC lost to an Oregon team poised to play in either a high major to BCS bowl before Dixon went down and to a Stanford team that lost to 40 point underdog Stanford that only won 4 games. National title caliber teams don't lose to 4 win teams.

Georgia did not even win their division. They lost to a South Carolina team that didn't go to a bowl and got destroyed by Tennessee who went on to lose to a banged up LSU team in the SEC Championship game.

West Virginia lost to a USF team that was hot at the time but fizzled toward the end, and to a Pitt team who only had 4 wins at that point. Their only other wins were against Eastern Michigan, Grambling State, Cincinnati (don't know how they won that one), and Syracuse.

Kansas had a weak schedule and did not even win their conference let alone their division.

It's pretty simple to see why LSU should be considered the clear cut national champions, and that there shouldn't be a shared national championship. I wish we had a playoff system b/c then we could know for real, but since we don't we have to look at the whole body of work, and LSU clearly has an edge over the others, even if only a little bit on some.

so maybe someone in here can help explain this.

this 'plus one' system is supposed to be the BCS' way of solving dilemma years like this one. who the hell would the other team be? its hard to pick when you have two teams that can make a solid argument, but i think that no one in the country would want to see another game that could pretty much be an SEC champ game , so it'd be USC-LSU in the plus one game.

then again, would those two teams be the #1 and 2 after all these games up till now?

Umm prove my ass wrong? What exactly did I say?

I made a thread to discuss the possibilities of a split championship and made no claims at all. I knew people would want to talk about it.

^ but they are nice breasts.

But really, if voters had just thought about who was REALLY the best teams in the country, and ranked them, this might have been a problem. Because then #3 and #4 wouldn't have lost (if it's VT and Okla) and you would have had a legit #3 or #4 (UGA or USC) winning. I think then, you might have had a possible split, but really, none of it matters since the BCS is here to determine one absolute winner of the national championship. Can't wait for the 8 team playoff in 2012

Kansas played VT in a bowl game (thus not to get in contention) and lost to missouri.

Although I agree that OSU shouldn't have been there either.

^ they didnt even play texas or oklahoma in conference (lucky scheduling for them this year) and then they lost the only strong conference game they had. Beating a weak ACC champion who got absolutely murdered by lsu doesn't make you national champion.

They have already said the plus one system wouldn't work(the conference heads), because you'd just be left with the same situation of argueing which teams are 1 and 2.

Last I heard from the SEC and Big East people is that the system would have to seed 1-4, and then have the winners play. And don't give me the whole "well we'll just argue over the #4 seed" crap because the chances of taking 4 teams and finding the best are much higher then only taking 2.

There is an incredibly easy solution to this dilemma.

Allow conferences with less than 12 teams to have a championship game.

I know its crazy, but it just might work. I know I would much rather have had the ACC add only one team (probably Miami at the time, although I would have preferred Virginia Tech)...then we could still have the round robin in basketball (18 conferences games is doable).

all this talk about USC getting hosed is absurd. THEY LOST TO A 40 POINT DOG AT HOME!!! You don't do that, and still desrve the NC. sorry Pete.
