A doghouse built for an architecture graduate seminar in Design-Build. A modern doghouse with a butterfly roof made out of corrugated aluminum steel funnels rain water to an angle iron down a rain chain into a dog bowl. The home is made out of re-claimed cedar shakes and aluminum sheet metal attached to an angle iron frame. The house also has a sleeping net inside and can hold mid-size dogs. The house is 36"x 60" and sits atop a 5'x5' platform painted black.

We are just looking to make our money back. The house cost over $600 to make. The asking price is $600, although we understand this is steep and are willing to negotiate with serious offers.

the center piece holding the chain is the catch-basin and lets the water feed down the chain into the bowl.

You should take that to some uppity/contemporary art store and see if the owner will sell it for you and split the money. I dont think anyone on TWW has $600 to throw at a dog house.

1. It may be difficult to get a dog to take to the bright aluminum sheet metal

2. It will be hot as fuck in the summertime for the poor dog

^^^ I thought about that, but I would rather sell this thing for like $250 or higher to a college aged student then sell it for twice as much and then have to split the difference. Or maybe we'll give it to a friend or one of us can get a dog ourselves. We know its a stretch trying to sell it on the TWW, but worth a shot, I suppose.

^You might be right about the shininess discouraging a dog (and I suppose no two dogs are alike, so one may not mind and one dog may hate it), but the heat shouldn't be a problem. The shakes are spaced out for about a quarter inch reveal blocking most of the sunlight that would conduct the metal (while inversely catching the suns rays during its low winter trajectory), and there is a clerestory that wraps the entire house, so any breeze would go through the house and cross-ventilate it. Also, the dog wouldn't be sleeping on the porch or on the hot summer ground, the sleeping net is based off of the model of dog hammocks that you would see in a pet shop that promote better joint support for older dogs as well as cooling by raising the dog off of the ground. Simply put, this home would not be any hotter inside during the summer than your typical dog house built out of OSB with no cross breeze and shingle tiles for the roof.

Someone asked about the water collection and if it would over spill into the center of the house. That's actually a fair criticisim and something I was concerned with myself while making (and i'll admit, we were limited by budget and by products that we could find - mostly products from the home depot). The center angle iron has 2" flanges, and the corrugated aluminum roofs come to the center of it and almost touch one another, essentially providing a "sand going through an hour glass" scenario, and the water does not really have the gap needed to just pour into the angle iron. It has also rained since this thing was made and the interior stayed pretty dry (and the dog bowl full ). I'll admit that it hasn't had to withstand hurricane forced rains or winds yet, and to be honest, any rain that would enter the home would be through the front clerestory more so from rain overflow.

Anyways, were just looking for a good home, and can be reasonable with the pricing. PM if interested.
