I graduate in May and would like to move down to the Emerald Isle area for a couple months after I graduate. I just need to find a part-time job down there to help pay the rent. Part of my graduation present from my family will be to help pay for the rent as well if I do choose to move down to the coast for a couple months before I start work full-time.

I've talked to some folks from that area and they have told me if I wait until after Spring Break, all the summer jobs will be filled. If I talk to them now, they can help find me a place to stay for the summer.

Have any of you worked down there for a summer? I was thinking of getting a job at a bar somewhere, but I enjoy drinking at the bar rather than working.

Any other ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I have some friends who live in Emerald Isle. There isn't a whole lot going on down there. They all switch back and forth on everything from construction to working the deli at Wal-Mart.

The idea of working any of those jobs as a graduate is pretty horrendous. I'd look for something more upscale. Either waiting tables at a nice restaurant, working for a marina, or maybe even finding a charter boat that needs help. If you mention that you're a college grad whenever you're making chit chat with your customers you might end up picking up a sweet job out of it when the summer is over.

i've actually talked to a couple of the parks and rec. departments down there as well as a marina.

it would be cool for one of those to work out (I am a prt-sports management major) but the main purpose of this trip is to enjoy a couple months off before i hit the real world. i just need something to help pay the rent.

work on the charter boats either in atlantic beach or emerald isle

my cousin does that now and pays good but you need experience to be a boat hand
and its hard work and unless you like fishing and being on boats, dont do it

other ideas, clean condos and wait tables or bartend

if your into science, go to pine knoll shores aquarium and see if they have any positions you could fill.

Paging wantacivic he ran an auto shop down there for like a year. He can point you in the right direction.

I would imagine if you could find someone to rent a trailer from monthly would be the only way you could afford to stay on the island during summer. Personally, I would try to land a job at a hotel or property management company since (as you said) bars are a lot more enjoyable when you don't work there. Should be no problem since you are graduated.

I knew three people who were renting a pretty nice 3BR, 2.5Ba duplex in a good neighborhood for $800 per month. It's pretty comparable to Raleigh really. Rentals aren't bad as long as you're on a year lease. The key is going to be finding someone on a lease who has an open room that you can move into.

i'm definitely looking for something like a small/cheap trailer. i have a buddy that has 2 trailers in the trailer park right there on the water next to the bogue pier. (well, one is his parents and the other is his grandmas)

he is down there this week asking around so hopefully there will be one open for the summer. property management sounds good... what are they looking for? basically condo cleaners? i could do some stuff like that if the parks and rec departments don't work out. i think getting on part-time with one of those would be the best because it could possibly lead to a full time job down the road.

thanks for the ideas... keep 'em coming. i am trying to get this nailed down before all the spring breakers get down there and gobble up jobs/rentals.

I mean property management is a huge business at the beach. (in season of course) I would imagine every real estate company has to pretty much double their staff during those months just to handle the shear volume of calls and activity. All of those duplexes, condos, and cottages have a rental company that handles pretty much every detail of keeping them occupied so the owners can pay for them the rest of the year.

I don't know anyone specifically but if you can get in with some locals in that business and surely you could find a job that pays decent and does not involve a lot of cleaning, food, or dealing with drunk people.

anyone know what kind of help hotels look for during the summer? as a PRT major, i guess tourism is part of that. and maybe working part-time at a hotel could atleast be a resume builder.

I don't know, but there is a decent break in front of the Sheraton at Atlantic Beach (or is it Pine Knoll Shores?) if you're into surfing.
