whatnever, he still has a good reason to be extremely* pissed off. but hey, crack open the dvr and snatch out the hdd(their hdd's are normal 80GB IDE 7200 rpm seagates), hook it up to an external usb 2.0 attachment, and salvage the data that way - you could run s.m.a.r.t. on the drive, to figure out what needs fixing, if it breaks.

(like it would be that hard to be able to set it to record a couple extra minutes on either end )



anyone old enough to remember vcr plus? the programmable gadget that turned on your vcr by remote?

with that, you could set it to record 5 minutes before and after your show, as to not miss any of it



advancements in technology that are only available at the cost of other features, aren't really advancements

like, for instance, how dvr isn't set up to allow users to easily obtain an actual copy of the recording

so i went into the Atlantic Ave. office today and forcefully DOWNGRADED to the HD-DVR box with the old interface (SA8300), before the failures/freezing/reboots. While in line, I convinced 4 other middle aged tv addicts to do the same. I feel much better now.

We went through like 3 dvr boxes at my last apartment. My current DVR box hasn't outright died but it's clearly a refurbished piece of shit with poorly written software powering it.

It's slow, randomly has issues with HDMI, randomly fails (requiring a full power cycle that takes a RIDICULOUS amount of time to come back online), sometimes doesn't record a show, and generally is just kind of lame. I'd consider getting satellite here but given the position of my apartment I don't think we could get a dish anywhere that the complex would accept it.
