My best friend just moved here and has an 18 month old daughter. She and her husband would like to go out with some friends tonight to watch the Steelers game, but have no idea where to look for a babysitter. Anyone have any thoughts?

Ordinarily, I would offer my services: "Providing professional live-out child care and educational services for local families. Emergency and on-call hours available to registered clients only." Unfortunately, I'm having a baby on Tuesday and started my maternity leave yesterday.

:bump for the parents:

i hear the internets is a GREAT place to find someone [you don't know] to watch a child [that you actually want to see again].

ps find a business, not a person. http://www.superpages.com/yellowpages/C-Babysitting/S-NC/T-Raleigh/

^ Word.

I've been running a childcare business for several years and you would be shocked at some of the stories that I have heard from parents about previous experiences. Ideally, you want to find someone who does it professionally, has some kind of credentials, and easily verifiable references. If you find a college student to do it, at least ask for references that you can call up for a quick chat.

The problem with these last minute plans is that parents often do not check up on the sitter before hand and settle for whatever. At least an agency has already done the background work.

You could tell them to try a drop in business like Right Time Kids. http://www.righttimekids.com

The baby ended up getting sick, so they couldn't go out anyway, but thanks so much for all of the information! It's been VERY helpful!
