Pretty sure best buy used to... hell, walmart sold the kits at one point but not the install service.
1/3/2008 3:28:40 PM
dweedle are you in charlotte, for some reason i thought you were? freeman's car stereo has them, if so. they aren't a bigbox store but there are plenty around charlotte.

Dweedle, I'm sure if you bought one online, I know a few car shops that would install it for a minimal price.I can give you some hook ups. let me know.

what kinda car? do you have a factory keyless entry system? some systems will work with that (i.e. hit unlock button 3 times and car starts)
1/3/2008 6:05:32 PM
07 mustang gtand i dont think it does that
1/3/2008 7:44:40 PM
I'm not saying it does it stock. I'm saying some remote start systems are designed to connect to the stock door lock system wiring and can use that as a trigger. It's a pretty common thing and is obviously so you don't have to have another separate remote just to start the car. You'll hit some combo of buttons on your stock one and the installed aftermarket system will pickup what you've done and start the car or shut it off accordingly. I had one on my Tahoe and installed it myself.I assume that car has a keyless entry system.. I'll do some searching in a minute for the model I installed on my Tahoe, brb[Edited on January 3, 2008 at 8:10 PM. Reason : a]

so I just need the product that looks like a box with wires w/o the remote(s) ?
1/3/2008 9:16:54 PM
best buy has it, so does CC.
1/3/2008 9:31:31 PM
i look at their websites and all their systems are like 200+then i see this shits on some sites that are like 50 or sobut i imagine just a cord and box thing w/o needing a new remote would be cheaper
1/3/2008 9:36:07 PM
i would prefer something like was mentioned previously.just having your stock remote operate it would be extremely nice.of course, if you have an immoblizer on your car, then it becomes slightly more difficult.you would have to use your spare or have a new key programmed (uncut) so that the system would let your car start remotely. makes it easier to steal, which is why i haven't used it yet.

few things, you will need to get a bypass modual. before you buy anything online find a place that will install it. ( most places WILL NOT install a remote start system of an unknown brand or one they dont carry) Why not go to BB, CC, or Tweeter and get a DEI system, (561r (remote start comes with 1 remote or from your factory key fob) - not sure if thats the current model or not anymore) DEI gives you a lifetime warrenty on the product and you will get a lifetime warrenty on the install. ***one other thing to consider. if you keep the factory remote and start the car by pressing the unlock button 2 or 3 times (however its programmed) the car will be unlocked in your parking lot. no one can steal the car but they can open the door and take whatever they want. **most factory keyless entry systems do not work once the car is running. so you will not be able to lock the car from the remote after you have remote started it. I suggest a DEI 562t (keyless entry w/remote start w/2 remotes) again if thats still a current model number.

Yea, just go to a store and talk to them. They can look up your car and give you a real cost that it's going to take given they have to bypass your cars security system and install everything and guarantee it. No offense, but it's obvious you shouldn't be trying to do this yourself, especially on that car. So, yea, go do that. Let us know what they recommend and we can probably at least tell you if the price is stupid ridiculous.
1/4/2008 9:06:17 AM
I bought one at kmart and installed in my grandmother's car. shit took FOREVER and would have been a lot longer if her car had a security system.
1/4/2008 11:00:29 AM
Dude it's a pretty fucking easy install, wiring diagrams are online and without a security system you're just splicing wires... once again proving you shouldn't be working on anyone's car
1/5/2008 1:31:15 PM
walmart has one. carolina rustang has a few instock
1/5/2008 2:12:36 PM
my key has a a security chip in it. can i still get one? i dont see how you could bypass it since it goes directly to the computer.
1/6/2008 10:17:40 AM
Yes it's easy to bypass. I'm not familiar with which type that car uses but I know it can be done fairly easily. You'll have to get a spare key that will be left in the car and connected to the computer when you use the remote start. This was told to you earlier in the thread. Nevermind just saw you weren't the thread creater. It will be hidden somewhere so its not like blatantly leaving a key laying in the dash or anything like that.[Edited on January 6, 2008 at 12:29 PM. Reason : "Directly" to the computer via wires... the wires can be split and ran to the remote start/key]

dont get ahead of yourself (^)
1/6/2008 4:29:43 PM
1/6/2008 7:36:55 PM
sorry man, but that's not true.if i saw that a car had remote start, i'd look for the little box that stored the key, which would be near the ecu or steering column. i'd take the key out, tape it to the steering column and hotwire away.that would take how much longer? not much.
1/7/2008 11:58:22 PM
Depends on what kind of system it actually uses. Some of them (on cars that just use a resistor pellet on the key, like GM..) don't require an actual key, you program the remote start box to give a certain resistance to the computer when it is activated. This means you can't just pull the key out of the remote starter box because well, there isn't one. Of course this isn't always the case as many cars use either a combination of the resister pellet with a sensor of some type in the keyhead or just the keyhead. Also, how would you even know a car had a remote start system? A system installed properly isn't going to be visible or have any signs of it being there. I see your point and agree it may be a little less secure..but the fact is, if somebody that knows that they're doing wants to steal your car, you aren't going to be able to stop them.
1/8/2008 9:05:35 AM
if it was installed properly it would take a long time. find the bo, then you have to get the box open, get the key out, put it my the ignition, hot wire the car, break the steering column so you can steer. I am guessing 5 to 7 minutes....thats a long time to try to steal a car. On top of that, most remote starters are with an alarm package, so you have that going off while you are trying to do all this. Or you can spend more time disabling it. Most theives would likely move on to the next/easier car to take. If they dont, better hope your insurence is up to date!
