I have enough in Best Buy gift cards to get the 4GB Nano w/o spending any $$$ (I'm not completely worried about $$$ but I am paying my way through grad school right now so I am trying to keep un-needed expenses down) of my own. I will probably only use it at the gym and on business trips (I travel more than once a month with a max travel time of ~ 5 hours). I don't think it's worth it to get the classic/touch but I want to make sure the 3rd gen Nano has been a good experience for everyone...Thank you for your input TWW.

why not

what else could you get from BB that would make you happy?I have a 2nd gen 8gb nano and I wouldn't trade it for anything (except for more capacity).Considering you have giftcards that have to be used at BB I think going Apple is a good plan considering the markup on nearly everything else at that store.

yea why not, just get somethin that you'll use. no point spending the moola on somethin you don't need.

Solid... 4 GB Nano I bought.. I love it. The video is high quality too and doesn't take up much space...Is it legal to convert DVDs you own into .mp4 to have on the Ipod?

yes, why wouldn't it be?

depends on who you ask--i think the RIAA calls that "stealing one copy"

That newest lawsuit is pure horse shit. How can ripping it to your computer for personal use on an ipod be "stealing." Christ, are they trying to completely kill the market for cd's? Actually, this may be a ploy to get everyone to download.....less overhead.....more profit.[Edited on January 3, 2008 at 12:16 PM. Reason : Is reselling/buying used cd's illegal, too??]

Get it, it's a solid device that you will use, I don't see how the money in giftcard form could be used in any better of a way for yourself.

^^ that is what I was referring to... that is just so weak... I don't d/l mp3s or movies anymore but I'm going to convert the DVDs I think regardless...^ Yeah, I bought it... I love how lightweight it is... it's no distraction at all at the gym. I barely feel it on my arm...[Edited on January 3, 2008 at 12:19 PM. Reason : x]

Ideally, a shuffle for the gym, and a classic for everything else would be great, but that is $$$$$$. I've got a nano, and I think it's great for the gym, and for portable music. I don't like the case design of the newest generation as much--but that is from someone who is looking at it from more of a designo standpoint (i really like teh idea of a metallic skin that wrapped and opened up at the ends).

I also think it's funny that Itunes tells you, that you can't transfer none Itunes music between computers, or transfer downloads to non-registered computers, when you can. There are even companies selling software, to allow this...........WHEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS COPY AND PASTE.

Nice... I borrowed a cheap little program from a buddy to convert DVD to .mp4 and the size is pretty small (300 megs) and the quality pretty good... the only problem is a few of the movies/tv shows have the picture freeze for like 3 seconds right at the beginning and nowhere else. The sound syncs up fine still but it's sort of annoying..
