if you just "think" you have the flu

chances are you don't have the flu

probably just a cold.

Just go to the doctor. If nothing else, they'll give you something Rx strength to relieve the symptoms. You can't "cure" it, but you can be given something like Tamiflu to keep the flu from getting worse. Or antibiotics to clear up any secondary infections resulting from the virus.

It could be MONO. When my husband had mono, we were pretty sure that it was the flu, but it ended up being teh kissing disease.

yea i was sittin at my house and started feeling weird so i took nyquil

well that night i woke up in a sweat and a fever, got better a little yesterday and came back to raleigh went out last night, still didnt feel 100%

got up this morning and seemed to be getting over it, then did some cleaning and bam...feels like its back

im guessing dayquil, tylenol, ibuprofen and rest are my relievers

I thought I had the flu, but then I realized there wasn't an outbreak in NC and doc gave me a chest x-ray to reveal that I just had pneumonia. Pain (incl. migraine-like headache) and fever were the worst two symptoms for me.

About the 4th day, breathing got pretty shallow due to congestion building up from the bacteria in my lungs. A crapload of guaifenesin helped to get the congestion out of my chest so I could breathe better. I'm about done with my antibiotics now and almost all the chest congestion is gone, but the first few days were hell. Every time I slept, I'd have my fever climb to 103.5 and have nightmares and wake up with a headache nothing short of a migraine. Those were some trippy nightmares.

I guess I didn't mean to play down pneumonia over flu, except that it's more treatable using antibiotics if diagnosed (I was misdiagnosed on the second day of symptoms as having "viral syndrome").

Those damn bacteria, maybe if I didn't bike to work in the cold rain, didn't stay up all night studying for an exam, and didn't work so many night shifts, I might have not ever contracted pneumonia.

Even if the health center is open, they don't have their new x-ray machine installed yet

http://www.ncsu.edu/student_health/Appointments/index.html

Closed New Year's Day.

I didn't have any vomiting, however, I did feel sick to my stomach a few times, probably because I wasn't eating much when I felt so bad.

tamiflu is the answer, but you need to take it in the first couple of days for it to be effective

[Edited on January 1, 2008 at 7:43 PM. Reason : bonus: you can find out if you actually have the flu]

well if you have the flu, then you have two options

1. stay at home and nurse yourself until you get better. If you have a wife, fiance, or girlfriend, they will take care of you

2. you can pull a Michael Jordan....and step outside....handle your goddamned business....then go back to sleep
