Since I see many people interested in going to pharmacy school lately, I'll just go ahead and create this thread. I'm currently a PY3 student at UNC. Anybody who has question about pharmacy school, post it here. I'll try my best to answer them.

Let's see. I'm applying in Summer/Fall 08 for Fall 09 so I'll start with some questions.1. Did you work/volunteer in a retail/hospital pharmacy in college?2. Did you do research in college? If so, how did it benefit you?3. What PCAT prep do you highly recommend? (classes, books, etc)4. What made you a stand-out applicant?

doh I just saw this. Would you know what the avg stats are for those that got accepted?[Edited on December 31, 2007 at 7:34 PM. Reason : .]

^^1. I volunteered for 1 1/2 year at rex hospital pharmacy2. Didn't do any research3. Truth to be told, I didn't really study for the PCAT. I bought the Kaplan book, but keep putting it off on studying. I literally look at the book for 2 hours the night before the test. 4. I don't really know if I'm a stand-out applicant or not, but if you're well-rounded in grades, PCAT score, experience, etc... you should be fine^I believe the average acceptance GPA for my class was 3.5, and PCAT score was 85 percentile. The competition is definitely getting tougher since I applied though. A professor told us UNC received 3000 applications for 150 seats last year.

^and getting paid $100+K/year doing it. Ain't life great?

Haha if you think its just counting pills then you're an idiot. You might as well ask the pimple faced kid at the movie theater to count you out 6 generic pyridium and you might be surprised at what you get. If it were that simple.

is it true that the reason there is a shortage of pharmacists is because most of them are girls who only work 2 years full time and then only work half time after that and still make 70K a year? Also, I am an engineer. I make 61K a year right now plus get all benefits and stock options ect...with the complete package, I make around 80 to 85. by the time I go to pharmacy school, I would be making around 75 ot 80 or around 100 to 110 with everything. Whats the annual raise a pharmacist might get? Also, how are the hours? Any shift work covered at the 24 hour places or hospitals?

^that is kinda true IMO. Pharmacist generally make around $100K/year just salary. Depends on who you work for, you might work 8 to 12 hours shift. The annual raise is also depends on the company you work for. I don't really know that for sure, since I am not out of school yet.
