12/31/2007 11:08:13 AM
hahaha alot of the smarties in my class failed it. i didn't even study and i walked out feeling like i got a solid b+you have to admit though an 8 hour exam is intimidating. [Edited on December 31, 2007 at 11:13 AM. Reason : .]

yeah when i found out that the company i accepted a job with didnt give a shit, i never prepared.and got drunk ass balls the night beforehad to leave in the middle to go vomit, which was interesting having to wait on an escort when you know that it's only a matter of time before you just vomit on the floor.passed that yoink

^^ an 8-hour test is only intimidating when you realize a huge pay grade change and an important step for the rest of your career hinges on the results. The FE was just a test; the PE made you want to sweat bullets.

do your 4 years of experience have to be between getting your fe and your pe or can they be prior too fe ?
12/31/2007 11:50:51 AM
usually after:
12/31/2007 12:01:11 PM
i interned for about a year before i graduated while still in school. and that statement is odd because you can take the pe after like 10 years of experience and no education. or something like that.
12/31/2007 12:02:54 PM
well, that would be the exception then. people who get grandfathered in who have the experience despite an education. usually someone who has just been out of school, they dont really acknowledge internship type positions unless you were heavy on individual design.i interned as well, and i think its fairly common for people to do that in engineering, and still everyone i know that has taken it (internship or coop or not) had to get 4 years of doing 'engineering work' under PEs (i forget the number in NC but i think you need 5 PE references you have worked with to verify)now dont take my word for law this is just what i have looked into personally and gotten from talking to people because ill be looking at the PE in another 3 years or so [Edited on December 31, 2007 at 12:13 PM. I did plumbing design while i was there but mostly working with a CIPE (i think thats is) but still under a p.e. now i do both plumbing and mech design.

I co-oped during school and that time counted towards the 4 years. I also included part-time work at the same firm and surveying experience under two licensed surveyors towards my PE application. By the time I finished filling it out, I had listed 6 years of experience while only being out of school for 3. They accepted my application without any problems.
12/31/2007 12:17:45 PM
good to know.
12/31/2007 12:20:59 PM
you can count up to 1 year of surveying experience towards the PE exam without a degree. You can also count 1 year of a completed co-op program from an accredited university towards your PE. I'm pretty sure they frown upon trying to count internship work, but they ask you to list it anyway just for record purposes. Also, I got my degree in EE and took the power module, but they had no qualms with me counting the surveying experience. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll be able to count my engineering experience towards possibly getting a surveying license before the new rules go into effect.

silly exams and certificates...
12/31/2007 12:30:09 PM
Basically all i need is a PE over there to sign off on it i guess which shouldn't be a problem.
