can i buy a cheap USB network adpater thingy and plug it into one of the 2 USB ports on the back of my Dish ViP 622DVR box (instead of running ethernet across the floor)?dish says it won't work, but i don't totally believe them. i know stores are getting retarded about returning opened electronics, so i don't want buy something, find out it doesn't work, and not be able to return it.

doubtful the usb port on the receiver will work with it.but you could just buy a wireless bridge and run ethernet from the receiver to that, assuming you're using an ethernet connection with it as it is.

I read somewhere that the HD Dish boxes could have an external HDD hooked up but you had to pay some ridiculous $40 upgrade fee to get some software upgrade. Not sure if they have it for the non HD recievers or not.Let us know how the USB network adapter works out because I have wondered this as well.To get my shows onto DVD I broke down and purchased a DVD recorder and have to play the show off the DVR and record to DVD. I would much rather do it from my computer.

I doubt that will work as well but you can go to Best Buy, buy it, try it and then return it as long as its within 30 days, pretty sure it doesn't matter whether its opened or not.

Ive tried it. Didn't work. But it did recognize that I had a USB device in the drive. It said I had to have the port enabled($) so who knows if it would work after that. I also plugged in a USB thumbdrive and got the same ($) message.I was doing it on a Dish Network receiver.

The wireless ethernet receiver would probably work best, same thing you'd buy for an xbox or other system that didn't have wireless. Just configure it on a host PC and then you can connect it to the set top box.

they take $5 off my bill if i connect it to the internet. i just don't want an ethernet cord all across the room. i'll look into the wireless bridge set up.

so can i use this?http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F5D7330-802-11g-Wireless-Ethernet/dp/B00020H1TG/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1199133825&sr=1-1and could i also plug the PS3 into this?

^Yeah, that would work fine for getting it online, you can probably plug it up to a switch to allow multiple devices access to the wireless, unless of course it doesn't support multiple IP addresses itself, which I believe is doubtful (though I have been wrong before and never tested such a configuration).

just to test, i hooked up a Dell wireless router to the dish box last night and told it to connect...no luck. i tried resetting the router but that made no difference. i'm sure there would need to be some configuration or something.HALP
