in terms of stepping up when we needed someone, i think gavin has come to be someone we can rely on in tough game situations...similar to hodge's senior year, he picked up the team, most notable in the ncaa tourney that yearagree?

4 point play?! Woooo weee!

hodge kind of picked up the team in the tourney his freshman year too when, iirc, grundy fouled out of the michigan state gamei'm pleased with grant's current leadership role though and his improvement...he isnt afraid to take, or make, the big shotsnow if he could just limit his turnovers and occasionally release his shot at the apogee of his jump he'd be a very very good player^that 5 point play last night was off the chain[Edited on December 28, 2007 at 12:31 PM. ^^He's still a better shooter than hodge[Edited on December 28, 2007 at 12:35 PM. Reason : .]

its almost like hodge's shot got worse over his college careeri do love watching Grant and Fells lead a 2 on 1 fast break like they did a couple times last night
12/28/2007 12:35:47 PM
i agree that grant put the game away at the end....but where was fells after the first half? Apparently he was done playing after the 1st half

I think Grant is playing more like Hodge's junior POY year (although I'm not saying Grant is headed towards POY). He's stepping up more like that and not screwing up as much.

Grant, though pretty solid, is not ACC player of the year material.

grant shooting > hodge shootinggrant drives = hodge drivesgrant finishes > hodge finishesgrant emotion < hodge emotiongrant leadership = hodge leadership - vocalgrant athleticism >> hodge athleticismi think Gavin Grant is overall a better basketball player, Hodge a better leader. both have incredibly similar styles, but hodge lacked the inside-outside aspect that Grant has. hodge could drive and finish or dish, but rarely stepped out and hit perimeter shots

grant drives < hodge drivesgrant finishes < hodge finishesgrant ballhandling < hodge ball handlinggrant passes < hodge passesYou are way off base if you think Grant is a better driver. Julius had a shitload more points, was a better ball handler, passer, drew more fouls, and had a better A/T ratio. All of that combined equals a better slasher, if not a better overall player. He was ACC POY for a reason -- all of that by his junior year.Grant isn't in the same class, yet. Hodge was a much more feared player. Grant has the potential to be better, but it's late in the game for him to match what hodge did.[Edited on December 28, 2007 at 6:36 PM. Reason : .]

Gavin's strength is on the break, in the open court. Great speed when he turns it on.In the halfcourt, he isn't half as good as finishing as Hodge was.

Hodge also was second team national player of the year in 2004. Does anyone even talk about grant on the national stage??You have to be a new fan or have a complete lack of perspective or something to think that what Grant can and has done even approaches what Hodge did.

Hodge was also a quality shooter before his senior year, and a fucking beast on the baseline drive.

I love Gavin, and have always defended him, but he is no Julius Melvin Hodge. I don't think some of you realize how great Hodge was for this program. Here Julius asks McCants how the showers at UNC are.
