is a "forced fun" holiday?? Maybe it's just my mood this year, but it seems that every year's whole debacle leading up to NYE of "where to go" and "what to do" is just fricking stressful--takes the fun out of the whole thing. And it just gets worse every year.I think I'm done with NYEor I'm just a party pooperor both!

i've never been to a new year's party so i wouldn't know.

New Years is *the* holiday in many countries around the world, just not so much in the US. I personally love getting together with my friends on NY and family on Christmas.

I don't feel like it's forced fun, but I HAVE noticed a distinct lack of options the last couple of years. It used to be there were a million things to choose from - now there's only a few and nothing appeals to me. Maybe the hype just isn't there anymore?
12/28/2007 9:41:37 AM
the luster wore off when you can't watch 5 minutes of it on TV without seeing 3 minutes of commercials.I do have a gig playin' that night though - get to break out the new electric

New Years' is my BIRTHDAY!!!That being said, I think I'm more stressed out that anyone - I have to pick out the venue for the party this year (Marvin on 14th St NW Washington DC in case anyone is in town) and throw an afterparty at my house.
12/28/2007 9:44:17 AM
i feel like it's forced funit's like you want everyone to be doing the same thing, but no one doesplus it's cold outside
12/28/2007 9:44:33 AM
^^Hmmm, least you know people will always be up for celebrating your birthday...unless they're someone like me ^exactly. like this year, i wouldn't be surprised if i spent it without my bf...sad, but true. i'm just not feeling it. i think i've been hyping it up too much over the years, doing basically the same thing since i was 16, and b/c none have really been memorable, i'm just saying fuck it. least not memorable in a good way. :-/[Edited on December 28, 2007 at 9:50 AM. cough cough, guitar player, cough cough DC, good lord. anyway. I like New Years Eve, as its known in the non-internet world, because its one of the few holidays that you spend with your friends instead of your family.
12/28/2007 10:10:39 AM
im excited to spend it with my GF this year. i tend to really like new years anyways but it is a hassle. for years ive gone out of town...even if it was just to Charlotte. I would really like to spend New Years in New Orleans once and i would like to do the the big NYC thing before i die
12/28/2007 10:14:14 AM
^that's not true... i spend just about every holiday with friends... Even if it's just a quick breakfast we try and fit something in.
12/28/2007 10:14:37 AM
my family doesn't live where my friends do, so spending time with both on the holidays isn't possible.
12/28/2007 10:17:36 AM
Its the celebration of a largely arbitrary date, so yes it is pointless. We just like excuses to get drunk and act out on repressed sexual urges here in the US.]
12/28/2007 10:19:03 AM
and I'm ok with that.
12/28/2007 10:19:59 AM
Well yeah, if you get your rocks off celebrating arbitrary dates, more power to you. My preference is to go to bed early, get up early, and have the first 12 hours of the day practically to myself.
12/28/2007 10:20:42 AM
this is the first year in a loooong time i haven't planned something elaborate like a roadtrip or a big party... i'm gonna let everyone else worry about it and i will probably decide on the 30th or 31st what i'll be doing that evening
12/28/2007 10:25:32 AM
I dont care what I do on NYE as long as it involves kissing Allie at midnight and punching ^ in the face at some point
12/28/2007 10:41:23 AM
I wanna punch Brett in the face too! NYE hasn't been nearly as much fun since that year I ate a roll with a bunch of folks.[Edited on December 28, 2007 at 11:08 AM. Reason : ]
12/28/2007 11:07:46 AM
well supposedly this thing that me and jason have planned has turned into a big to do....this will be interesting.
12/28/2007 11:30:52 AM
its more forced every year you get older...until you get old, then you're like "wow i'm alive for another year lets celebrate"
12/28/2007 11:33:27 AM
not reading the whole thread but i agree with the forced fun part. sometimes its so forced it ends up being completely NOT fun. or maybe its that theres all this hype about it but i never have more fun that night than any other night when i go out and party. i get all excited and then i'm just let down by the averageness of it.
12/28/2007 12:07:47 PM
We're having sake on NYE at home, but my parents prefer beer and my sister doesn't drink. So I might likely end up with the whole bottle.THAT is not forced fun.
12/28/2007 12:08:54 PM
hahaha, true
12/28/2007 12:14:23 PM

12/28/2007 3:59:25 PM

12/28/2007 4:04:22 PM
whats up with people actually buying ads nowadays? i mean what are we supposed to say when we come with a "BUY AN AD" comment and find out that you actually did buy an ad
12/28/2007 4:05:10 PM
I couldn't agree more elkaybie.
12/28/2007 4:05:27 PM
