not sure why this pisses me off so much, but why the hell do people do this so god damn often when it is so unneccessary. it is only practical when you know you will have a difficult time backing out such as at a sporting event. people do this all the time at restuarants, my apartment complex, etc etc. whyyyyyyy??? they spend so much more time trying to get their car into the spot when backing it in than it would take to back it up and leave.

the only way I can think is that you perhaps are trying to drive around the perpetrator or something

I like to back in between two big trucks so it looks like there is an empty spot until you pull right up to it and there is a car there.

If the current accessway is clear i.e. no cars coming towards me or following me, when I'm pulling into the space, it takes me 15 seconds max to pull forward and back into it because:

1. I drive a truck and don't wanna back over someone's kid, or idiotic adult, no matter how slow I back out.
2. I can't see through other vehicles as easily.
3. Instead of wondering if I'll back into someone's car when I'm leaving I can just leave normally.
4. Turning problems are compounded trying not to sideswipe someone parked beside me with my front end when in concert with #3, especially in small parking lots.

Granted a lot of that comes from driving a large vehicle, she's got a big ass on her but it's just simply easier for me.

it's much easier to back a truck into a spot than to pull in

my newer truck has a pretty tight turning radius, but I have an old one with no power steering that can be hard to fit into tight parking spaces. it's easier to back it in for the same reason that forklifts that steer with the rear wheels fit into tighter places.

Parking spaces in cities are tight. Most cars can pull into them.

I drive a truck and I back into spots where ever i can.

dude, it's simple,

I can back into a spot just as easy as pulling into one. It's not like it's difficult. If I'm parking to my left, I"ll pull in. If I'm in the right lane of a parking lot, and I want to park on my right, I'll back in. Works every time.

I back into the space at my apartment complex because people drive like maniacs through the parking lot and I want to be able to see them when I pull out.

I always back my SUV in. I also normally park in a spot where only 1 car can get beside me ( you know like next to a curb, end of parking lot, etc. People do this a lot more with nicer cars. Easier to get out also.

I almost always back in my spot (when I'm parking at my apt complex). When I'm parking at a business or whatever, I couldn't care less.

My apartment complex is like that too. I have to back out at .0000000000001 mph b/c whenever someone sees me backing out they floor it to try and get past me. There is this one chick that drives a grand prix and I swear to god she has to be doing 40mph through the parking lot in the mornings.

i like to back into a spot if the car to the left of me is parked all over the line. If I have to squeeze into the spot, I like to screw him over by putting my passenger door a few inches from his (as long as it's a decent looking car, cause then I know they probably care enough not to back out using my car as a bumper guard), thus leaving me enough room to get out of my door.

I think you all are missing the point here.
Ask any spy, crime fighter, super hero; You never see them throw their cars in reverse
and look over their shoulder to dash after a bad guy. It just isn't done.

Two reasons.

Easier to view traffic and pull out.

I'm always in more of a rush to leave a place than get there, so it saves a gear shift.

some of us drive larger vehicles making it necessary to do this to fit in narrow spots cause some of you asshats can't park your own vehicles evenly in the lines

or i could just try pulling in and risk hitting your car in the process and when backing out- no skin off my back- not like plenty of dumbasses haven't already hit my truck
