what would you recommend and why? please don't bash what others say, and only make one recommendation please thx! i would recommend :drumroll: resident evil 4this game captivated me more than any game to date with attention to detail and visceral atmosphere.

I would recommend Super Mario Galaxy right now. Haven't enjoyed a game this much in a while. But that might be too obvious. So I'll pick ICO.
12/21/2007 1:15:17 PM
ico?
12/21/2007 1:16:09 PM
despite the fact that I'm going to get flamed for this, if you've never played it I would recommend World of Warcraftit is the game in the MMORPG genrestand alone game...Dark Cloud 2definitely
12/21/2007 1:22:13 PM
yeah Dark Cloud 2 was fun as hell
12/21/2007 2:03:49 PM
I would first have said RE4, but I'll go with Smash Brothers Melee.
12/21/2007 2:04:15 PM
Legend of Zelda series...however I haven't played the most recent versions.I agree World of Warcraft is like crack and probably one of the greatest games created but I am finally burned out on it.
12/21/2007 2:04:28 PM
I am still very impressed with Bioshock. No game and has come out and hit me in the face like that one has.
12/21/2007 2:17:47 PM
RE4 sticks out as the one I would recommend, but that has been mentioned. Next I would've said old school Zelda, but that has been mentioned....To try and be original however, I would say Civ II. Countless hours of gameplay and just appeals to the RGP'er in me. I'm still playing it it's so classic.

I'm playing through HL1 right now (at a slow pace) and I'll pick the orange box once I'm done with Bioshock and Mario. And ICO was amazing:

Call of Duty 4 hands down. Most fun single player campaign and the multiplayer is just as awesome.

Super Mario GalaxyI'm still loving it even as I play through with Luigi.
12/21/2007 3:21:21 PM
Final Fantasy X was without a doubt the most fun in the series, but Final Fantasy 7's storyline and ability to do so much in the game made it my favorite. I'd recommend either.

Grim Fandango

Battlefield 1942There is no other game I have ever played where the multiplayer has engrossed me that much. Today's games don't make it look original, but a few years back the whole class/capture points/tickets/vehicles mechanic was very refreshing and amazing to play. Be advised the single player "campaign" is pretty much a joke, just simulated multiplayer using bots. It's definitely my #1 or #2 game of all time.
12/21/2007 4:33:36 PM
Fallout 2Simply the best RPG I have ever played. If it has to be recent I would go Mass Effect.
12/21/2007 4:57:58 PM
Oblivion
12/21/2007 5:01:34 PM
COD 2, as good as COD4 is i still like this one better, the multiplayer is rediculously fun, also 2-minute football 2007 is probably the most addictive game ever made
12/21/2007 6:05:31 PM
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeone of the best games of all time imo.

"Battlefield 1942"Signed, this game is still the best multiplayer experience out there to me. If you ever play it, get on the Disciples of El Alamein server. Its a slightly modded capture the flag server with stuff like jeeps with nos. There are also lots of crazy full mods for the game. Notable ones include Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope, Galactic Conquest (dope star wars version), and Battle Field Pirates to name a few.Ico is a game I actually had before I sold my PS2 but it didn't work and sadly I never got to play it. I did however play its prequel which game out later, Shadow of the Colossus. The boss fights are nothing short of epic and the scenery is an amazing feat of achievement for the PS2. It does take some spatial awareness as the boss battles can be hectic, and while the landscape is something to look at it is so huge and hauntingly barren (on purpose) you can get lost in it.Other than those i'd reccommend Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast for PC

I was going to post ICO, but Cif82 posted it already under his name AND mine.
12/21/2007 7:32:04 PM
ahaha, oops! I was in the office checking my email real quick and must have forgot
12/21/2007 7:48:25 PM
I played Resident Evil - Codename Veronica IIRC - I think it was for the Dreamcast. All I remember is:1) the terrible up is forward, right and left are pivot control scheme2) Finding a gun and 7 bullets - and it took 25 bullets to bring down one zombie3) Zombie number 1 latching on to me, fighting it off just in time for zombie number 2 to latch on to me, fighting it off just in time for zombie 1 to get back up and latch on to me againI never even bothered trying to get very far in that one.Is RE4 better? Is RE4 the same game as RE Codename Veronica? I haven't kept up.
12/21/2007 8:19:04 PM
You just haven't been keeping up. RE is so different now:
12/21/2007 8:24:55 PM
great comparison example there
12/21/2007 8:31:19 PM
your still not gonna have enough bullets but that is what makes the game CHALLENGINGi remember when i first got my head chopped off by the chainsaw in RE4 - it was so sudden - greatest videogames death everi thought i might actually be dead for a second
12/21/2007 8:36:35 PM
Meh. Graphics are one thing. If I still have to press left until I pivot then up to run forward instead of simply pushing down then I'm not that interested.

here is the whole resident evil 4 game in gameplay, and cut scenes bundled together to give a movie-like feel.http://www.gamespot.com/video/535840/6160704/resident-evil-4-video-feature[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 9:34 PM. Reason : re4 ]

Gotta be Half-Life. No single game had a bigger effect on the industry as a whole.
12/21/2007 9:29:09 PM
^ Thats actually incorrect. There are a number of games, dozens in fact, that have had a bigger effect on the industry.Super Mario Bros, Wolfenstein 3d, Doom, etc.

Everquest. It wasn't the absolute first and clearly not the last but it made the MMORPG genre what it is today. I'm not sure there has been another game that really evolved as much as this one (2 engine rewrites/upgrades and 14 expansions). Of recent games: Clearly it has to be COD4. I was completely floored by single and multiplayer.
12/21/2007 11:22:43 PM
i wouldnt play through re4 if i got to bang jessica simpson at the endcant shoot and rungraphics are horrible
12/21/2007 11:37:58 PM
pure replay value, Civ IIIjust a cool ass game, HL2Thief and Thief 2 were both really really fun too
12/21/2007 11:54:45 PM
I played the theif demo back in the day and loved it. Then I found out later that windows xp doesn't run the full version So I bought theif 2, played it and was like "meh." It just wasn't the same, the whole medieval-techno path they took was lame. From what I've seen the new Deadly Shadows game looks great, that is, if my system could handle the load.[Edited on December 22, 2007 at 12:04 AM. Reason : Theif series = excellent replay value]
