I laughed a lot at this thread but I don't really know why.Anyway, candidates, right...well, there's a black man, an old hag, a fear-mongering war-hungry Yankee, and a libertarian. ...things were going great for each of them until they all ended up renting an apartment together! Hilarity ensues! *cue shitty sitcom music*

obama - earnestness, change, optimism, new ways of doing things, open-mindedhillary - incredibly intelligent, possibly socialist in disguiseedwards - sort of the same as obama, though i doubt he'd offer as much change and innovation as obamagiuliani - took one of the most dangerous cities and made it one of the safest, fiscally conservative and socially moderate, i actually like that combinationmccain - seems to truly care for america and what happens to it, very even-keeled, does not seem to be prone to knee-jerk responsespaul - supports the constitution, socially moderate though is very vocal against abortion and very supportive of a christian nation even though the founders intended otherwise, most honest politician i've ever seen
12/17/2007 10:30:43 AM
^Wow... that was so non-cynical, it almost gave me hope for American politics.
12/17/2007 10:38:13 AM
ive been looking into paul.i like him.i may just support a bumper sticker.
12/17/2007 10:44:03 AM
ok i'll give you my takeguilliani- he is one of those rarebreed repubs that actually doesnt mind abortion/gay rights...you would think that makes him a democrat, but in fact he is one of those "fiscal conservatives"...basically, he is a "wannabe conservative"(more like wannabe pres am i right???mccain- he supported the illegal immigration bill back in the spring in which most on the right were not in favor of...put his campaign back a bit....he also ran out of money....he makes dumb jokes about the beach boys song "bomb iran"(bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb iran)...he is for the surge and what notromney- this guy is a freaking mormon, and also has like 150million dollars...before this campaign it was probably like 250 million, but he is spending a ton of money to make himself look more respectable...he hired a company that hired illegals btw....also a huge flip flopper....like makes john kerry look good...wants a secure border(i hear all the repubs want that but he like emphasizes it or some shit...probably loves china(i heard the business type like him love china)huckabee- this guy is one of the only like "regular republicans" running...and hes not even that regular...dude raised taxes by like 500 million dollars....also lets out a shitton of prisoners....11 of the 1000+ people he let out killed again...he also thinks the world is 6000 years old....hes also kinda a theocrat.....his redeeming quality is that he use to be fat as hell...and lost the weight...so i wish he could convince the lardasses in america to do the samethompson- this guy has fallen so much from huckabees rise, that he has 0 chance to win...hes pretty much a typical conservative-(low taxes, prolife, for the war, illegal immigration...blah blah blah)...dude is fucking like a 40 year old trophy wife that seems like the vindictive hillary clinton type...i'd stick it in her butt thoughonly gonna discuss 3 dems cause there are only 3 that could winedwards- dude talks about how there are 2 americas all the time....dude is a fucking phoney...he would say that shit while living in a big ass house and having a 1000 dollar hair cut...yeah right dude you are not fooling anyone you douche...he also made his money as an ambulence chaser....also, i worked for a hospital in 2004, and the manager said he use to have to deal with edwards and described him as "pond scum"obama- i really want this guy to winclinton- man do we really need to get another clinton....i mean sure the 90's were great...but i dont feel like having yet another polarizing figure in office...it would be like it is now, and nothing would get done...i think clinton is just too calculating(like a demon type thing) for me to vote for her...i mean i'd vote for her over a repub just cause its obvious this country really needs a democrat, but i dont want to...
12/17/2007 1:20:03 PM
12/17/2007 1:25:15 PM
yeah...i use to not think he was...but honestly people that wont vote for him cause hes half negro probably wouldnt vote democrat anywaysand the odds are so stacked against repubs this election year that i think he has a chance....now if the repubs could only nominate someone like the mormon...the .5negro could definitely beat him imo

Ron Paul - I'm really on the fence about Ron Paul. I think that his view of politics is great and that America would be a better place if there were more people like him, but I'm not sure if he's cut out to be president. His appeal seems to be entirely based on the appearance that he is the Fresca to the Cola War that is American politics.Guilliani - I've heard him speak and he's an intelligent guy. While unprepared to be the big cheese, I think that he would be a great charismatic VP.Romney - I'll just repeat what I've said several times: "I know a few mormons and they all seem like good people, but as far as I'm concerned, Mormonism is just above scientology on the religious totem pole and I have a hard time taking one seriously as a presidential candidate. Buying into the whole story really makes me question anyone's decision making." McCain - Although he has fallen out of favor with a lot of people, I respect the hell out of the guy and would like to see him get the nomination.Huckabee - I actually liked him a bit, but then I found out that he used to be a Baptist preacher.Thompson - Seems alright, but it won't happen.Edwards - I would slap him like a bitch if I ever had the chance.Obama - Very articulate. I really don't see the appeal of the guy. I agree with the notion that he's just a rorschach test that people project their hopes onto, despite the fact that he has very little applicable experience.Clinton - She's pretty much riding on the fact that she isn't Bush and that people, for the most part, had a good time in the 90's, coincidentally when her husband was president.

^obama has about as much experience as gwb did when he got elected[Edited on December 17, 2007 at 4:29 PM. Reason : and they both used cocaine at some point in their lives]
12/17/2007 4:29:29 PM
i hate the experience argument. george washington had no experience that would have qualified him for president.and as for huckabee, i didn't like him when he said he didn't believe in evolution. that's just plain stupid. it's not admirable in the least. and his notion that the united states makes a mistake as one nation is bullshit too.

^^^Fresca is a Coca-Cola product. So I guess that makes the Republicans Coke, and the Democrats get to be Pepsi.Sweet, Pepsi is the best. And I disagree with most of your summaries.
12/17/2007 8:39:46 PM
^^^ Governor of a large state gave him some executive experience. State legislature and half a term a US senator doesn't.^^ Plenty of presidents have had no government experience but have had significant time with military leadership, which actually translates extremely well.^ I wasn't trying to get anyone to agree with me. Just talking out of my ass as usual.
12/17/2007 9:17:47 PM
I was pretty sure that you were trying to get people to agree with you."Seems alright" is pretty persuasive stuff. You gotta watch yourself when you got rhetorical powers like that.
12/17/2007 11:12:07 PM
Bridget, shut the fuck up. This is a thread asking personal opinions of the candidates. If you want something like persuasive rhetoric, go watch an ad for a candidate.[Edited on December 18, 2007 at 12:40 AM. Reason : ^^and thank you for the (military) experience. it's a big bonus.]

I don't regard the that/who distinction as particularly important, and its proper usage doesn't really indicate anything to me about a person's intelligence.

^i agree that he was looking good for a short while after sept. 11...but he has not done anything for me since then...he seems to be the typical politician...which i am sick of...he changes his position for politcal expedience and has done so over the last decade...now im not a fan of calling someone a flip flopper (except when they are like hillary who changes poistions from day to day and debate to debate)...people have the right to change thier minds...but gulliani just puts out a vibe that i dont like...

if having hideous offspring is a requisite to being a good president (i.e. Chelsea Clinton), Huckabee might cut it:

maybe, but when you revert a lot of issues to the states, such as removing the department of education, then it's completely obvious that states such as north carolina, south carolina, kansas, etc will begin a move towards establishing a lot of religious principles/monuments/etc, which in effect is making a christian nation.

it's sad that b.c of the shitty two party system a candidate advocating a more lassiez-faire economic policy which i support is packaged with a "lets go around waving our big stick at the rest of the world we don't like" and has a 50% chance of wanting to legislate morality (huckabee, romney). While the more level headed foreign policy candidates on the democrat side wants to turn america into a giant economic nanny state providing every illegal, crack mom, and lazy trailor park trash with free health care, juicy welfare checks, unicorns and rainbows.
