12/11/2007 12:01:45 PM
so how did it go?
12/11/2007 12:02:57 PM
she didn't need that leg anyway
12/11/2007 12:10:46 PM
best of luck to her. i hope it isn't too serious of surgery!
12/11/2007 12:13:02 PM
joe knows a little something about surgeries
12/11/2007 12:13:59 PM
It kinda is :-\She had her gallbladder removed 15 years ago, and something went awry, and she's been slowly scarring all this time. The base of her stomach is almost completely constricted/obstructed. Now she's herniated something in the stomach area. The insurance company balked at paying for this until her dr told them "You can pay for this now, or you can pay for this, plus the extra care and time in the hospital required when something ruptures in a couple of months"[Edited on December 11, 2007 at 12:15 PM. aren't you a state employee?can't you get her on your ppo when the year rolls around?[note: i don't know if you can have parents and whatnot as dependents on the ppo]
12/11/2007 12:17:51 PM
yea that does sound pretty serious - best wishes to her for a speedy recovery
12/11/2007 12:18:00 PM
why do people have to get gall bladders out btw? seems to be a really popular procedure in marion, virginia
12/11/2007 12:19:25 PM
Temp PT (for now...I think if I ever took a break from school, I could get FT perm status)And no, you generally can't. When her insurance went to shit (takes effect Jan 1, and is more shitty than you can imagine), I looked into working at Starbucks, just so they could have better insurance. Thanks joe
12/11/2007 12:19:54 PM
the surgical waiting room has wireless
12/12/2007 7:27:27 PM
bttt...any updates?
12/12/2007 7:27:56 PM
!surgery was done laproscopically, so her stay will be shorter, and her room has wireless access.Supposedly, visiting hours end at 830. I hope they aren't planning to make me leave.
12/12/2007 8:06:59 PM
nah, they usually don't make you leave if you're a family member
12/12/2007 8:16:31 PM
I didn't think so either, but their choice of words made me wonder ("All non-patients must leave the floor")
12/12/2007 8:19:38 PM
wish your momma goood luck for me

Good grief.20 incisions.
12/12/2007 8:54:57 PM
i hope your mom has a full and fast recovery give her a hug from me!
12/12/2007 9:03:57 PM
I'll tell her so. She's snoozing right now. Seeing as how she's in a whole fucking lot of pain (like, i'm forbidden to make her laugh), that makes me smile. [Edited on December 12, 2007 at 9:11 PM. Reason : ldkj]
12/12/2007 9:08:12 PM
This is why I'm here still:She was sleeping pretty well, being on percocet, and I've been listening to her snore, and when her breathing changed, I perked up. Her lips were purple, and her oxygen saturation was 87% (the nurse said they don't like to see less than 93%), so she's back on oxygen.
12/13/2007 11:12:42 AM
Hope all goes well for her.
12/13/2007 12:29:36 PM
Good luck ambrosia's mom!
12/13/2007 1:52:08 PM
My god. Her doctor has just now come by to see her. She's staying another night.
12/13/2007 9:00:52 PM
Probably for good reason.
12/13/2007 9:01:42 PM
Oh, quite I didn't feel like she could handle the trip home.
12/13/2007 9:03:09 PM
staying the night in the hospital isn't all that bad. you don't have to get out of bed to pee, and they pump you full of delicious medicines to keep you in a "la la" land as much as you want
12/13/2007 9:31:41 PM
they took her cath out this morningbut as far as the meds...yes. She was more lucid and coherent on morphine than on percocet.
12/13/2007 9:32:55 PM
Yeah, and although I was probably no where near your mom is, but when I had surgery and I got to go home the next day it was noooo fun riding home and going over the hospital speed bumps with stitches and staples still in me...hurt like a bitch even with the high quality pain meds!I'm happy she is doing good though
12/13/2007 9:35:09 PM
goodlx2u2!
12/13/2007 9:36:50 PM
wow...She is doing so much better. Some of it is due to being on the tail end of a dose of perc, but she's almost back to her usual liveliness, and she's in a good mood.
12/13/2007 11:57:05 PM
That's what we like to hear!
12/13/2007 11:58:05 PM
12/13/2007 11:59:15 PM
there was a really cute nurses' aide in here helping my mom...she saw the keyboard protector I have on my laptop, and we started macgeekin' out I told her about firefox, and she saw me using extensions, and was like, "Ok, I have to have that"
12/14/2007 1:42:19 AM
i'm really glad to hear your mother is doing better!
