i just set up my netgear router, but i've had it for a while and don't have the cd it came with. how do i go about password protecting the network?

It really depends on your router, just go to your internet browser and type in 192.168.*.* (the * being different for each brand of router). It will ask for user name and password which will be the default ones your router came with (again this varies with you brand of router). Then its just a matter of going through the options to find security and entering a passcode.

depending on the router, you should be able to type 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 and access a login screen. If you haven't changed anything, the username should be 'admin' and the pass is 'password'.http://kbserver.netgear.com/main.asp

you can't.

netgear default is 192.168.1.1username default is <blank>, and password is "admin"go to the administration tab and Management selection to change router password.this is kind of meaningless though. you should be more concerned with setting up WPA.

I think the Netgear default is actually 192.168.0.1

just go to your router and reset it. There should be a pinhole button to press to reset the router to factory defaults. This erases all of your settings from before. Best thing to do is save the wep key on a usb key so you can have it accessible easily.
