12/2/2007 11:07:31 PM
well.... i'm more inclined toward the 2wd (other than just not wanting a 4wd) because of front end part replacement/keeping everything tight.

This is a Dodge
3/13/2008 5:45:46 PM
^^having driven both i have to say that gm makes a better quality interior and i know the body panels line up a whole hell of a lot better.
3/13/2008 5:55:08 PM
GMs don't ride like a wagon either.
3/13/2008 6:09:40 PM
^, ^^ agreed im on my second GMC... dodge just doesnt compare
3/13/2008 7:56:49 PM

Swanny's auto sales in Newton NC.
3/13/2008 8:42:38 PM
Joey, i know you got tha camera, lets see some pictures of it. Let me see that fucked up dash, fucked up radio, fucked up windows, and fucked up door locks. And let me add that i am incredibly jealous, honestly. I wish that i wasnt trying to buy a house, except that i need one. Also i REALLY need something to tow the MJ with. Oh well, you wikll do for a temporary tow rig for the time being
3/13/2008 8:59:02 PM
haha you never saw that '90 toyota did you?i bought it in Newton also.
3/13/2008 9:00:14 PM
someone has had a little to much party liquor.I said it was a project.
3/13/2008 9:10:16 PM
wait... is that....party liquors???? COULD IT BE?
3/13/2008 10:02:07 PM
ahh newton, thats right up the road from the house
3/13/2008 10:10:45 PM
is newton the same as newton grove?
3/13/2008 10:20:50 PM
so your dream truck is unreliable and has known design flaws. ok
3/14/2008 8:02:13 AM
yes, it's exactly what I want.do you understand the concept of a project - a fixer-upper? do you not enjoy seeing the evolution of something from one state to another? I take no pleasure in "buying" a project vehicle. no fun in it, to me. I'd rather make it happen with my blood, sweat, streams of profanity mixed with tools flying across the yard, and the occasional successful first-attempt.you can piss on it, shit on it- i dont care. [Edited on March 14, 2008 at 9:44 AM. Reason : there foo]
3/14/2008 9:34:31 AM
you bought the truck man?! SWEET POST MOREP ICZ!
3/14/2008 10:24:36 AM
yeah, ima replace some essentials, change fluids, add BHAF and start hacking on the exhaust tomorrow. pics to come
3/14/2008 10:27:01 AM
At least you'll be able to sit in the engine bay while you're working on shit, especially the distributor.
3/14/2008 12:13:21 PM
yeah that reminds me, I was wanting to replace some ignition components while I'm at it
3/14/2008 12:16:54 PM
easy greasy, is it a 5.2 or 5.9, or the v6 wait is it even a gas or a diesel, I cant see the badging that well
3/14/2008 12:28:29 PM
its a cummins j/k on ignition
3/14/2008 12:48:24 PM
back-half, here we come!adam8778 and I are going halfsies on a bender
3/17/2008 11:28:16 AM
pics or bust
3/17/2008 1:21:14 PM
What's your goal for the truck once it is done?
3/17/2008 2:37:46 PM
my goals are still floating butttt....-500+ whp in a decent tune-same wheelbase as a 1500 shortbed- fab my own back-half + 4 link and roll cage, with the help of adam8778- auto trans- level stance, probably 4" drop rear, 2" front- keep the dash, probably jank the radio in exchange for gauges-fuel cell- nitrous- 9" rear with coiloversI'd love a full fiberglass front end, but probably not going to happen. This will be a 98% street truck.
3/17/2008 3:59:59 PM
why swap in a weaker rear end? even a mild cummins will eat a 9" for lunch. one of the mega high dollar trussed, heat treated, 1 million spline, etc. aftermarket units might survive...also fyi, s&w race cars makes a pre bent cage for the 94-02 trucks. just cut and notch to fit and weld it up. saves a lot of time/effort/money over buying sticks of tube and bending one yourself.[Edited on March 17, 2008 at 4:29 PM. Reason : .]
3/17/2008 4:25:30 PM
i was thinking the same thing about the 9"...a cummins 2wd auto? would have a dana 60 IIRC or a d70 with a stick. parts availability is there just like for the 9 and so much more beefget the bender, learn to use it.....and eventually u can build me a cage
3/17/2008 11:21:49 PM
^ should be a 70 with the auto or the 80 hybrid (80 chunk and 70 tubes) if it had a stick. and hurley, don't swap a 9" in, that shit will go boom unless it's built heavily (read $$$) i guess if you're thinking lighter is better, the 9 would be the strongest, lighter axles to use. but think about it. you're using a motor that weighs around a thousand pounds better keep something BEEF under the truck. find a dana 80 or 14 bolt for cheap and throw one of those in.also keep in mind if you're making 500 hp at the wheels you'll be making 1,000 or more lb/ft of torque. i'm not sure what kind of numbers a 9" can take but that's a lot. [Edited on March 18, 2008 at 12:24 AM. Reason : .]
3/18/2008 12:21:23 AM
you're going to spend major bucks to make a 9" hold that power. the parts and upgraded housings are out there to do it though.
3/18/2008 1:09:44 AM
yeah im basing my ideas from seeing a few decently quick trucks with built 9's - Project X from diesel power is the only one I can rememberand thanks for the cage info.I need a dash cover, btw. hook me up
3/18/2008 7:13:18 AM
ok i looked around and found a FEW people running a 9 inch behind a cummins. one was a rat rod, looked to be a tube chassis and it was a built 9 inch. you'll need to drop at the very least a few grand on a 9 to get it built to the point that it would work. also depends on how heavy you keep the dodge.
3/18/2008 9:32:52 AM
I can get you a black cover for like $115 but it would be in wilmington tho, dont know about shipping it
3/18/2008 10:09:20 AM
^that's a start. A new one from JCW is ~$130 +shipping.I'd like to get ahold of one for $50as for the axle, I'll probably address the issue when it fails. I'ma run over to the local fertilizer distributor and weigh the truck soon. most likely the thing is going to still be a pig with the altered wheelbase and whatnot.so I joined DTR. I intend on doing most of the mods myself, and learning as I go is my main concern with the whole process.[Edited on March 18, 2008 at 11:13 AM. Reason : -0]
3/18/2008 10:54:24 AM
DTR has a bunch of good info, at least for the first gen stuff I've looked at. The guys are really helpful and have a TON of info available. let me know if you need any help or anything
