it's a shame it's a musical, i'd want to see it otherwise [Edited on November 29, 2007 at 9:47 PM. Reason : the movie, not the play or whatever]

I've been waiting for another Tim Burton movie. This looks very promising.
11/30/2007 8:07:54 AM
Tim Burton should use Johnny Depp in more of his movies

This is one of my favorite musicals of all time!! Stephen Sondheim is a genius. I did this musical in highschool in Charlotte at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and it was crazy fun. Sacha Baron Cohen is playing Pirelli!!![Edited on November 30, 2007 at 4:33 PM. Reason : .]

opening sequence is up! http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.cfm?colid=23667I hope the whole thing isn't as computer generated though - it looks so fake Regardless, music is on point and I'm still super excited.

Cept Johnny Depp can't really sing. Atleast he tries. The parts are really difficult though. I would imagine they changed a lot of the music. I was stuck playing oboe, english horn, clarinet, and sax on a 13 foot scaffolding for our production of it. I'm really interested to see where they make the cuts.

i'm there as soon as this comes out. i'd watch a remake of Gigli if Burton directed it with Depp playing J-Lo's part.also, Burton's slated to direct Alice in Wonderland. anybody heard anything on that? probably animated? maybe start a new topic with some info if you got it.
12/12/2007 1:26:25 PM
I can't wait to see this. Saw it on Broadway a while back with DZAndrea[Edited on December 12, 2007 at 1:43 PM. Reason : stupid]
12/12/2007 1:42:08 PM
^^ I could see Burton doing Through the Looking Glass really well.I'm not quite so sure about Alice in Wonderland.
12/12/2007 2:01:04 PM
Oh great, another Johnny Depp/ Tim Burton circle jerk. I hope all you fags enjoy this horseshit.
12/12/2007 2:07:13 PM
yay! circle jerk for great acting and great direction! yay!
12/12/2007 2:22:11 PM
Great acting, you mean like in Cry Baby or in those string of films based upon a Disney amusement park ride?
12/12/2007 2:28:22 PM
Burtons movies are much better under the influence of something.Watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory after some Darvocet and tell me otherwise.
12/12/2007 2:30:29 PM
Im kinda stoked.
12/12/2007 4:38:29 PM
I saw this last night at an advance screening at Brier Creek, and I really liked it.Just make sure that you're prepared for them to sing the whole time, because they do.It sure was gruesome, too!
12/14/2007 1:01:45 PM
12/14/2007 1:16:25 PM
i suppose you people hate the south park movie, too
12/14/2007 1:40:53 PM
musical or not, it looks shitty based on the commercials
12/14/2007 1:44:19 PM
Do any of you guys even know who Steven Sondheim is? He's actually a very interesting character and writes brilliant plays. It seems like none of you are giving any credit to where it's deserved. You're all caught up in who directed it, or who's in it, or why they sing the whole time. IT'S A SONDHEIM MUSICAL. Has anyone even SEEN this play done live before?
12/14/2007 2:20:43 PM
^ I have. It wasn't a professional version, but it was still great.
12/14/2007 2:21:41 PM
Assassins ftw
12/14/2007 2:44:38 PM
^
12/14/2007 2:45:34 PM
^great musical too. Into the Woods also.
12/14/2007 2:46:40 PM
Yep, as TKE-Teg said, we saw it on Broadway during the last run with Michael Cervais and Patty Lupone (one set, cast is the pit as well)
12/14/2007 4:09:31 PM
ill probably end up seeing it
12/14/2007 4:14:38 PM
Anyone get a chance to see it this weekend? Not playing in town where I live, so I was wondering if it was worth the drive to see it.
12/23/2007 7:29:15 PM
i saw it yesterday...twas entertaining, very visually appealing...sasha baron cohen was awesome
12/23/2007 7:38:51 PM
just got back....was a really great movie.
12/23/2007 8:27:59 PM
i liked it ok."catch the matinee"
12/24/2007 12:42:58 AM
we can't wait to see this. it's one of my husband's favorite musicals. disclaimer: he was in theater for over 10 years, so he's allowed to appreciate musicals. on a different note, i love when they interviewed depp, and he was like "they asked if i could sing. i said, 'i can try'."[Edited on December 24, 2007 at 10:27 AM. 12/24/2007 10:27:10 AM
^that's awesome. i love me some johnny depp.
12/25/2007 2:13:53 AM
I had to choose between this one and "no country for old men"i chose "no country"i shoulda gone to Sweeney Todd.
12/25/2007 4:09:49 AM
I'm confused. It sounds like you didn't enjoy No Country, and that's basically impossible.
12/25/2007 7:12:27 AM
Just to state my opinion of the trailer..I will neither be paying or downloading this movie.
12/25/2007 7:41:32 AM
I fell asleep twice during Sweeney Todd and the only thing that I really liked about it was the sets and the costumes. The dream sequence was cute, but the rest of it wasn't that impressive. No Country for Old Men for the mother fucking win.
12/25/2007 8:13:05 PM
12/25/2007 8:26:44 PM
A friend of mine played Sweeny Todd in The Barber of Seville play in high school.
12/25/2007 8:27:07 PM
12/26/2007 1:10:54 AM
saw Sweeney last sunday, thoroughly enjoyed it...had to hide my girlfriends' face from the cuttings though, they were a little more than she likes during a movie...Helena Bohnam Carter was great... apparently sh'es up for awards for it, i could see why...
12/26/2007 9:40:56 AM
Edward Scissors-in-his-Hands.
12/26/2007 9:54:50 AM
when he's standing or sitting (and not looking malevolent) you see a lot of the awkward johnny depp from scissorhands and sleepy hollow...but when he's walking around and flailing you can still see the effect that being jack sparrow has had on him... he still walks liquidly
