Im leaving Cary around 1 to drive to Columbia for business.

Has anyone made this trip recently? I am trying to decide to either take I-40 to I-95 or take I-85 to 77

the I-95 route seems to be about 1/2 hour quicker and less miles to travel but i hate driving on 95 and despise driving through Lumberton. on the plus side, i can stop at South of Border and take pictures of the crazy stuff.

if anyone can tell me of any road construction or anything that might help me decide i would appreciate it.

if you are through charlotte at 4pm you shouldn't have any issues. southbound at 4pm isn't that bad and once you make it through charlotte and get into fort mill, sc it opens back up to 4 lanes and you'll be smooth sailing.

its not too bad trying to go south through charlotte as it is going north

i would do the 40, 95, 20 if it is shorter by mileage because you will avoid big cities

6 to 1, half a dozen of the other really. both routes will be fine

dont let I-85 scare you southbound.

I've made this drive countless times, and I would always pick I-95 over I-85. You'll be able to make it to Columbia in 3.5 hours from Cary easily. 40, 95, 20-- easiest drive in the world.

haha. I hate driving down 95 and seeing all those pedro's signs and when you finally get there, you're like "wtf is this little shit"
