my care somewhere to check to see if the Speedometer is synched with the actual rotation of the wheels.what is this called and where can i get it done?
11/28/2007 10:51:34 PM
first!where do you take your "care"?
11/28/2007 10:52:40 PM
it is called "checking to see if the speedo is accurate"i'd imagine you'd have to find a place with a dyno or somethingask at the AAA place on avent ferry, i always go there to get my oil changed and shit
11/28/2007 10:52:43 PM
i'm so awesome at spelling.hmmm, anyone know of a place for sure that does this "checking to see if [my] speedo is accurate"?
11/28/2007 11:01:29 PM
drive side by side with one of your friends while on the phone. See if your speeds are close. If they are not then get your car checked out or try it with a different side car.
11/28/2007 11:02:53 PM
that won't hold up in court
11/28/2007 11:07:51 PM
drive past a roadside radar display, that's about as accurate as you need.you can also use the following and some math to calculate the actual speeds, going off your tachometer reading:- engine speed- ratio of gear you are in - final drive ratio- tire circumferencemultiply them with the proper conversion factors and you can get mph.[Edited on November 28, 2007 at 11:11 PM. Reason : ahh ticket related.... didnt think of that]
11/28/2007 11:08:20 PM
haha, you don't need to have improper equipment to have a charge reduced to driving with improper equipment
11/28/2007 11:10:16 PM
i use a gps
11/28/2007 11:37:16 PM
hold up in court?!weren't you going like 30 over?
11/28/2007 11:39:14 PM
21 but who's counting
11/28/2007 11:39:49 PM
11/28/2007 11:40:52 PM
21 aint shit.
11/28/2007 11:41:14 PM
i figure if i can bring it below 20 then i won't be in as deep
11/28/2007 11:42:16 PM
haha, that shit doesn't matter, really--it's all about convincing the DA that you're a good driver, which is usually pretty easy anywhere in nc but wake county
11/28/2007 11:45:35 PM
yea i'm not worried about it, dad wants to have it checked out and i figure it wouldn't hurt anything.the cop even said the DA would be easy to convince.
11/28/2007 11:47:21 PM
bttt
11/30/2007 8:22:30 AM
no one in wake county does speedometer calibrationthey do in craven county though and it does hold up in court. many times (depending on how much over you were) just getting a speedometer calibration can get your ticket reduced, no matter what the calibration report says[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 8:41 AM. Reason : .]
11/30/2007 8:40:39 AM
can you refer me to a place that does speedometer calibration wdprice3?
11/30/2007 8:42:00 AM
I'll look around. But the only place I know of is in New Bern (Craven County), but I'm not saying that's the only place they do it, just the only one I know of since I had to get it done. I'll look and see if I have their name and you can call and see if they know of other places.[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 8:44 AM. Reason : .]
11/30/2007 8:44:03 AM
thanks man i'd really appreciate that.
11/30/2007 8:45:02 AM
well I can't find the paper, but I sent my parents an e-mail. they live down that way and either know/can find out the shop. I'll get back to you as soon as I hear something.
11/30/2007 8:58:17 AM
faulty equipment doesnt work in wake county anymore.at least thats what everyone has been saying. PM BigBlueRam
11/30/2007 8:59:33 AM
^ if that's the case, then I think yoshie's screwed (assuming you got a ticket in wake)yoshie: have you called a laywer to find out what you can do in wake?
11/30/2007 9:06:12 AM
oh, well i dont know where his ticket was.
11/30/2007 9:07:44 AM
i got a citation for 16 over - it was dismissed. just don't look like a hooligan when you talk to the DA and you'll be fine - they just want you to pay court costs.
11/30/2007 9:09:45 AM
yah. since this is your first ticket. you might be good to go.dress nice, get there early.if it was me, i wouldnt get a lawyer. i would see what the DA says. if he wants to shaft you, tell him that youve never done this before and you want to see if you can come back with a lawyer.
11/30/2007 9:12:21 AM
Yea, I wish I had gotten my ticket in Wake County. Lot easier to deal with than getting one in Rapides Parish, Louisiana.
11/30/2007 10:24:32 AM
cough up the money for a lawyer, you're gonna pay almost as much in court costs and fees anyways, it's probably worth the other $100 for you not to have a ulcer from trying to figure this shit out...
11/30/2007 10:34:16 AM
^^wake county sucks for tickets now, you can't get them dropped for improper equipment unlike most counties. after my last reckless driving/speeding ticket my lawyer told they were starting a new ordinance that would make it damn near impossible to get anything over 70 dropped. that was over a year ago so im not sure how that actually turned out but wake county is def not the county to get a ticket in
11/30/2007 10:37:24 AM
naw i got the ticket in greensboro.i'm not getting a lawyer, just doesn't seem worth it and i think i'll be fine on my own.btw thanks for all the help guys
11/30/2007 10:38:38 AM
what was the speed again? just go to court, talk to DA, ask him to drop to < 10 over. 99% chance he will. if he declines, tell them you want to get a lawyer, they will continue it. get lawyer, pay lawyer, lawyer takes care of it, done.
11/30/2007 10:43:18 AM
21 over.86 in 65...don't think he's gunna drop it under 15[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 10:44 AM. Reason : ]
11/30/2007 10:43:48 AM
yeah, do what i said, it'll work, i've gotten a ton of them[Edited on November 30, 2007 at 10:44 AM. Reason : yea he will and you want it < 10 over, to avoid insurance increase]
11/30/2007 10:44:33 AM
they might ask why you were speeding.try to come up with something kind of funny.like you went there for the NCSU game and lost and were just really sad.well thats not really funny, but still. tell them you traveled all that way. it was your first college football game blah blah
11/30/2007 10:46:00 AM
the cop asked me how fast i was going and i said "12"but seriously the only reason i was speeding is because i went down 85south for way too long and ended up 30mi outside of charlotte. i pulled into a gas station and asked for directions and then once i knew where i needed to go i sped so i wouldn't be hella late getting home.
11/30/2007 10:48:08 AM
go in, ask if they will reduce it to 9 over, plead no contest.if he doesn't reduce it (i've never heard of him not) then ask for a continuance to get a lawyer.
11/30/2007 11:03:43 AM
i've had speeds more than 21 over get reduced to 9 over without a problem, 110 court cost, 10 fine, but these new laws may have changed that....
11/30/2007 11:28:55 AM
as far as i know, guildford co. still accepts reductions to faulty equipment. wake co. DOES NOT.
11/30/2007 11:31:44 AM
there is a place at new bern avenue and blount st. that will do this. if you are headed east on new bern it is on the right at the corner with blount. its a shitty white building and there is a sign that says "speedometers" and other car crap. it costs about $30
11/30/2007 11:32:15 AM
Thanks GREEN JAY i'm prolly gunna take my car there.
