Just watched it, cool movie, but I have a lingering question. What was in (or the purpose of) that brown envelope Billy (DiCaprio) gave to that psychiatrist chick near the end, right before she shows the other dude the ultrasound of her baby? Seems like a loose end...just curiousTHANKS!

the proof that her husband dude was a fuckoff
11/24/2007 11:23:50 PM
i haven't seen it in a while, but wasn;t it just all the info and shit he had gathered (to be given to the cops in case he died or something)?
11/24/2007 11:24:39 PM
Setting up for a sequel?
11/24/2007 11:24:50 PM
^^^, ^^ I mean yeah, that's what I'd assumed it was, but they never did anything with it. They make a big point about the meeting in the hallway, her writing his name on it and dropping it in the drawer, but it plays no part in the resolution of the story. Oh well, just thought I might have missed something[Edited on November 24, 2007 at 11:29 PM. Reason : ^maybe if they hadnt KILLED EVERYONE ]

no i think thats why she leaves him or something like that
11/24/2007 11:30:09 PM
ha yea no chance of a sequel with this one
11/24/2007 11:30:10 PM
I don't know. I've seen some pretty bad and far-fetched sequels in my day.
11/24/2007 11:35:28 PM
i would accept a sequel only if it was calledThe Departed 2: Electric Boogaloo
11/24/2007 11:36:20 PM
Didn't Hostel have a sequel after everyone died? Okay... so one guy had to wait to die until the sequel, but still.
11/24/2007 11:44:02 PM
hostel =/= the departed
11/24/2007 11:46:53 PM
i just assumed it was the evidence he had collected against matt damon's character, so that people would know what he had done if leo didn't make it.
11/24/2007 11:47:43 PM
I always figured he told the psychiatrist to go to Mark Wahlberg's character w/ the evidence that he had.
11/24/2007 11:52:37 PM
the only problem i had with that movie was that NO ONE graduates the police academy and, without a shit ton of prior experience, goes straight to being an undercover sergeant assigned to a special task force

11/25/2007 12:04:54 AM
sure thats what they tell you cause you don't know anyone special

its really not as good of a movie as everyone thinks it is.
11/25/2007 12:35:22 AM
yeah wasn't the best movie I'd ever seen, but I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it for a rainy day. and Jack Nicholas is and will always be my fucking heroI guess it was good enough IMHO to warrant making a thread about a suspected plot hole[Edited on November 25, 2007 at 12:39 AM. yeah he's awesome i just watched it for the second time today and i liked it a lot the 1st time but it has no staying power for me cause it was merely and "ehhh" today and i'm certainly glad i didn't purchase it

The Departed 2: Dignam's Bogus Journey
11/25/2007 12:51:23 AM
sorry to hijack but i was just thinking about a question about this movie. Does anyone think that the chicks baby is fathered by leo, cause at the begininng theres something about matt damon not capable in bed and when he sees the ultrasound hes kinda like wtf? also leo and the chick are outside sometime after they got together and he puts his head on her stomach. Was wondering if anyone else was thinking about this.

^I think he's referring to the golfer.
11/25/2007 2:38:31 PM
Fuck. Nicholson. I've been fucking that up for years, STILL can't get that shit right...you know what I mean. And yes, used to watch a lot of golf.
11/26/2007 5:05:49 PM
^^^^^Yea, I think that's the way they meant it to be. Another point about that...whenever she hears the tape of Damon talking to Nicholson, and she storms in the bedroom, she says "And I thought I was the one with all the secrets." I guess that could just mean her being pregnant, but reading into it, Leo is the dad.

my only problem with the movie was some of the acting. When I first watched it, I loved it. Then while doing a rewatch the slip of accents got pretty distracting. During the scene with Leo and the girl in her office, she slips into different accents every other line.
