My roommate cooked scallops a few nights ago and the odor is still around. He cleaned the stove/microwave and left some baking soda in each. We cant really figure out where the smell is coming from now. I also sprayed some febreeze air effects which helps for a while but then disappears.Anyone have a suggestion that would eliminate the odor?

Maybe you have an escapee and there's one rotting away under the fridge or something.

I know there are some candles that are designed to remove oder in a room.

Maybe you just need to air the place out? I cooked a garlic sausage the other night, and it's still faintly garlicky in here.

i think he cooked them on the stove then might have reheated them later in the microwavethe microwave is the only source that we have found, and we know its not the only one

mastered years ago. it seemed appropriate given the stove/microwave combat theater. seriously though, take out the trash and give it time.

i burn a candle (or have a tart burner going) when i cook, or immediately after, and it usually gets rid of any food smells for me. but take out the trash also and make sure all the dishes you used are clean (not just sitting in a washer or something)

Realistically, this is like trying to get rid of cat piss odor.

Does it smell like the dish did the night it was cooked or rotten? Most likely, juices or seasoning got on something that is sitting in your kitchen. I suggest:Wipe Counters, Cabinets and all food surfacesPut baking soda down the sink drainWipe down the trash canMop up the floorsIf it is just a food smell, buy a Lamp Berger from Belk. While they are pricey, it will sanitize the air and remove the odor. I have had one for 4 years. It will knock out curry smells, garlic, and when I use the self cleaning oven. They only need to be lit for 20 minutes or so at a time.http://www.lampeberger.com/catalog.aspx

my parents cooked scallops in the house a few weeks ago. that night my mom cleaned the counters and sink, took out the trash, wiped out the trashcan, and washed all the dishes. they sprayed all sorts of air fresheners, used glade plugins, candles, and 3 of those sharper image ionic breeze things. that stench stayed around for over a week. they vowed never to cook them inside again.i didn't go to visit while that smell was around. my roommate in college did that once. i was scarred for life.[Edited on November 20, 2007 at 4:00 PM.
