i always had that happen when i lived in shitty apartment complexes. cause i knew it was just me/bad wiring.

now if mine goes out, i know the entire neighborhood goes without. except me though, since i have emergency internet.

if my internet goes down

i tether my treo 750 to my firewall/router and route all traffic through that

i get around 600kbps... cingular 3g ftmfw

i set up a bluetooth DUN connection (yes, you can do this in BSD, it just takes some work), it emulates a network interface (eth4 in my case)

i just tell it to route all traffic through that
