...something something Caesar something something God...
11/15/2007 11:51:25 AM
also remember, Catholics - DO NOT SUPPORT politicians who support the death penalty!http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/secretariat_state/documents/rc_seg-st_doc_20010621_death-penalty_en.htmlAnd birth control, too. Disavow any candidate who has admits to using birth control in his/her past!so...... who does that leave you with?
11/15/2007 11:55:09 AM
But agentlion, I was wanting to cherry pick religious doctrine to support my candidate! No fair!

Also remember Catholics to not to vote for politicians supporting the Iraq War. Wait...
11/15/2007 12:07:24 PM
But definitely donate to the priests' legal defense fund!
11/15/2007 12:10:50 PM
I could make so much money if I started a religion based on environmentalism. The market for lovehate-based religions is so cluttered.
11/15/2007 12:14:40 PM
hate based?
11/15/2007 12:37:41 PM
Basically any fundamentalist religion with rigid views of how society should be preaches intolerance through direct or indirect means. This creates a religion of hate where there should be love for one another regardless of how someone may be different from you as long as they are not a bad person.
11/15/2007 12:43:42 PM
Hey Catholics:remember when voting, that the One and Holy Apostolic Catholic Church does not have a stated position regarding NAMBLA.
11/15/2007 4:38:18 PM
But it should be painfully obvious what that stance would be if they did have one...
11/15/2007 6:12:28 PM
Jesus doesn't want you to support children's healthcare. Remember, the bible said also said the good Samaritan stepped over the man on the side of the road because he was a dirty liberal and the free market choses the winners.
11/15/2007 6:24:22 PM
I don't see what that has to do with this thread, but if you want to draw a good samaritan analogy, the good samaritan personally helped the dude on the side of the road rather than voting for the government to help him. Yeah, I think there's something to that...
11/15/2007 7:57:25 PM
Yeah, it means we should let the private sector deal with that bum and not make people pay as much taxes.
11/15/2007 8:01:44 PM
^^35.5 million go hungry in the US each year, almost a million people homeless.Seems like your charity argument holds little water. http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2007/11/14/over_355_million_found_hungry_in_2006/[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 8:44 PM. Reason : .]

...or it just means certain "Christians" don't live up to their teachings as well as they should.
11/15/2007 9:29:31 PM
so what is an easier fix, reforming society or reforming policy?
11/15/2007 9:42:33 PM
Seeing as we're no closer to winning the War on Poverty since LBJ started one of his many, many wars, I'd almost be still tempted to say "social attitudes..."
11/15/2007 9:50:02 PM
I'm glad that someone finally stepped forward to disprove the age old stereotype that Catholics are just slaves to what the pope tells them.
11/15/2007 10:01:40 PM
^ Isn't that kind of obvious? Find me one catholic (who isn't clergy) whose never used any form of birth control, condoms, saved themselves till marriage, and not even masturbated.
11/15/2007 10:34:31 PM
Catholics - only support politicians who are for quick withdrawal from Iraq!
11/16/2007 10:23:08 AM
11/16/2007 2:00:01 PM
^ ah, you'd be surprised.its quite a repressive religion, when taken to the extremes.
11/17/2007 3:24:29 PM
::reads posted article::Ok, so basically Catholics should vote for candidates that support aiding the poor, protecting the environment, and showing love and kindness to our neighbors (even illegal immigrants) and ALSO do not support abortion, the death penalty, gay marriage, or en vitro fertilization.Got it. Making my decision for 2008 will now be a breeze.
11/18/2007 11:47:32 PM
^ I don't know how huckabee feels about en vitro, but isn't his stance close to that?
11/18/2007 11:50:03 PM
^^^^ I could point you to one or two, as ^^^ said

Vote for Pope '08. Write-in campaign.
11/19/2007 12:16:17 AM
^ Not an American citizen, but hey... it's the thought that counts
