I'm opening an e-savings or a money market high yield account and I'm leaning towards AmTrust Direct's Money Market High Interest Account... anyone have experience with Amtrust or think I should go somewhere else? ING Direct, HSBC Direct and the other two contenders.

i have an HSBC savings account. it works. not sure what your needs are with it, but i'd probably just go for the highest interest rate. HSBC is 4.5% right now... when i signed up, they had the highest rate.

right now it's 4.822% at AmTrust and I don't think that's introductory

yeah I have the HSBCdirect account. It works and like ^^ said you get 4.5% which is much better than the 0.something% I got from a "normal" bank.

do these accounts have a debit card you can use at stores and ATMs or how do you get the money out?

I have capital one

^^a card, plus bank transfers are free.

yeah, I'd rather have bank transfers than a card, less opportunity to spend it....

third vote for emigrant, nothing but good things so farsetting up an account with one of the online banks is usually a three step process:1) give identifying information, including your account number of a savings acct. you have in a brick and mortar, and wait for the online bank to establish a connection with the clearinghouse (2-3 days)2) ...3) profit (at about 4.75%)

ive been happy with ING. As said, money transfers are simple.monthly statement emailed to me, and 1099 info annually as well.[Edited on November 15, 2007 at 8:16 PM. Reason : .]

emigrant has easy live customer service, i've never had a problem, but i've called with a couple of questions on things and i've never been put on hold - they even followed up by phone to make sure i got everything i needed a couple of days later on the last issue with a joint account that's a heck of a lot of customer service for a discount service
