vtach originates in a ventricle... hence the name VENTRICULAR tachycardia

basically you can shock it if they're unconcious

otherwise, epi and vasopressin tend to take care of it

5 T's and 6 H's ftw.

vtach can easily turn into vfib, however

vfib is the most common rhythm after a cardiac event

coarse vfib is shockable

fine vfib isn't... you'll put them into asystole




you're thinking of asystole

that's the completely flat line (be careful though, fine vfib oftentimes looks like asystole)

no one can recover from asystole. no one. that shit you see on TV is fake. if there's no electrical activity in the heart (which is asystole) then i can't fix it. defibrillators don't restart your heart, they shock it into a normal rhythm

AED's are fucking useless, they only shock vfib, and even then, only if it's a certain kind... too complicated for me to explain right now

we have $12,000 monitors/defibrillators on every truck in wake county

our shit is better than what wakemed has.

you really think paramedics would use AED's? rofl

i mean they're good for what their intended purpose is (lay responders who have no training) but otherwise they're stupid

fyi, these are our monitors/defibs:

they kick some major ass, we can do 12 leads, pacing, co2 monitoring, everythinggggg.


and oh god no, that's so not sterile
we've got protocols for cricothyroidotomies, none of which include a ballpoint pen, haha
